That was taken at about 6:45 on July 25. The sunset is at a different point on the western horizon now, six weeks later, and days are shorter, so I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from that photo regarding shade, if that's what you are interested in.

How exactly do these canopies intensify (or corral) crowd noise. I apologize for not knowing construction science and acoustics.

It really only helps with the noise generated by the third decks. In the past, that noise would mostly be lost out the top of the stadium. Now, it is reflected downward towards the playing field.

So should students on third deck now look up when yelling to directly reflect their voice off of the canopy?

Well there was no construction there, and with such a massive project they didn't have time to work on items that are already in place. However....



It looks like in sections 402 and 403 (at least that is what the sections #s used to be) it looks like in 402 about halfway up and 403 near the top there are two random 4 seat blocks that are maroon?!?!?!

They either need to be all grey or all maroon. Maybe change them out to all maroon after this season.

In other news, Chavis needs to be fired as the defense has already gone to s*** with Ball State scoring 55 points....

I'm guessing here, but the folks that sell the seat backs for benches were also selling cushions for the armchairs, IIRC, and my guess is all of those are maroon, since the majority of the armchairs are maroon. The folks who get those in the upper deck of the Zone are going to stand out, if that is correct.

So if we had torn the whole thing down and built a new stadium, it would all look like that? We made the wrong decision.

The 4 maroon seats are probably the cushion seats you purchase for the season. Most of them are gray, but last year we had 2 of them for the whole season that were maroon.

twk, good catch. Indeed those cushioned seats are maroon. I used to sit in 401, those armchairs are plenty comfortable on the rump and back, no idea why you'd need the cushion, but I'm not quite old yet.

The ones they install on the bench seats are not comfortable at all, but at least they mark your seat and nobody infringes on your space.

I have found that the bench backs are a lot more comfortable when they are not permanently bolted down, so I just pick one up from the rental stand. May cost me more money, but it's all about keeping my back happy.

So how much will the new E & W side upper decks offset the noise lost from the new upper decks without a canopie, in relation to the old noise levels. The new Kyle will have many more people but how many of the new seats will be high enough that the noise escapes offsetting the gains made by the canopie?

The new Kyle will have more people, stands are closer to the field, is a full bowl (including filled in corners) and canopies over the east west side. In every possible way, it should be louder than it was before.

Yes, I understand that probability. What I should have asked - is there a way to demonstrate this fact numerically (decibels)? Not the exact method/calcualtion but a general idea that can be translated to another for understanding?

Example - avg NRG noise level Sat was X
The old Kyle avg noise level was Y
The new Kyle avg noise level could be Z

Considering calculable variables such as full house, same exact fans, all cheering on an important 3 down

The upper area of that section is bench seating. I think it's faculty seating.

I believe only the lower rows near the 50 yard line get maroon seats with backs and armrests. The rest of the third deck will be silver/grey benches. The maroon seats sell for a slight premium.

It would be nice if the Ath Dept would publish a bunch of pics of the west side interior clubs, suites, concourses, etc.
