so radio isn't on the same side as tv? are they going to have to think backwards when calling the game? that is strange to me.. Plus a big strain on crew I bet.

Per sources, will not be done in time, 2-3 weeks behind. Founders suites will be done. Other suites will not be completed. Crews will be working day of first game trying to finish as much as possible.

No wonder they don't have time to fix the water runoff pipes

The pipes look great, this means your source's info is, to be blunt, crapola.

He may have a point. Most play by play broadcasters use the terms "near side" or "far side" of the field to describe action on the field. This could cause some confusion.

You have no idea right now when they said near side what side they are referring to since not all both booths are on the same side. Dave will still say near side and listeners throughout the world won't know what side he is sitting on unless they remember Dave telling him what side the booth is on at the beginning of the game. Remember, these guys do games throughout the country with varying configurations. Complete nonissue.

If you listen to the radio and tv at the same time maybe.

.... unless you have radio going with the tv video, then near side as they run off the top of the screen, or juke left when they juke right. Just seems like you would want radio on the same side of the field as the main tv cameras

So on the level where TV is presumably going - there is five boxes, from left to right they are...

- Coaches booth?
- ???
- TV booth?
- ???
- Coaches booth?

I would think those two other ones are for radio - no? If so, good luck getting any interesting facts on players, pronunciations, etc. from local media or SIDs unless you have 30 minutes to get over to the other side of the field.

The west side boxes are

  • coaches box
  • TV
  • TV
  • TV
  • coaches box

All radio - home, national, visitor, and Spanish - are in the east press box.

A runner that jukes left or right is going to look the same regardless of what side of the field you're on. Only thing that changes is near/far sideline. Easily fixed by saying "home" or "visiting" sideline. Endzones rotate regardless.

Left to right

- Home coach's booth
- Secondary TV announcers
- TV Camera
- Main TV announcers
- Visiting coach's booth

And while we are on that subject, now that the railings have been installed in the ADA seating areas, the inner railing is the seperation between the secondary TV camera area and the ADA seating area.

OK, so what is going on here in the NW corner.

From top to bottom you have NW scoreboard, 3rd deck armchair seats, Loge Seats (next to upper level of suites), ?? (next to lower level of suites), funky triangle section, first deck.

The ?? section is the only west side section without a description, $, etc. on the seating chart at http://kylefield.com/seating

My guess is this is also Loge seating?

Really and truly amazing facility. Old Kyle Field, while charming and great place to watch a game once in your seat, was a total dump with terrible amenities and laughable suites.

I don't think there is any other college stadium with anywhere near this amount of armchair seating.

And I am pleased to see my new maroon armchair seat in section 115 has a cup-holder!!!

Someone said that's the board of regents box, which would make sense. The loge seating is right above it.

Ok that wood make sense as it has club access.

Re: announcers near side / far side / left to right / right to left are just descriptors for the listening audience to visualize, they aren't using north south east west, as not all stadiums run north-south and their location within each stadium is not always on the same sideline as the team.

Anything that helps the listener is key when listening to Dave South......

I take it that the west side boxes you mention are in the cutout in the middle of the third deck?

Yes.

The lower 'cutout' is the founder suite level.

I'm sure it will be fine just odd to me as I have never heard a radio announcer say "Allen in the shotgun, Noil and Reynolds split out to the home side of the field" I've always heard "split out to the near side" but again, sure it'll be fine in the end.

Why would they say anything different? They will describe it from their perspective.

What I'm looking forward to is seeing how it sounds to have their crowd mic right above the student section--it should really make an impression on the visiting radio crews.
vwbug
How long do you want to ignore this user?
they won't - My thinking is if you are like me and have the radio turned up and tv audio on mute - when he says split to the near side, it'll be the far side from what I see on tv, since the cameras are on the west side, but like I said I'm sure they'll figure it out.

It's not that it's impossible, it's just that for the last 70 years or so, they were radically different looking. One had a press box, one didn't. One end was open, one end was closed. It was instantly recognizable. I agree with Fife, that I always have to stop and think about what I'm looking at now.
To be fair I only checked up on construction from time to time... I followed demo and stopped during a lot of the earlier stuff where nothing much was going on.

What screws me up besides both ends being closed is that both sides have a press box. The east side seems like it would have too much glare but I guess that's why someone else said anything to do with tv would be on the other side.

Good to know about the 1 screen south / 2 screens north... these may be the first pictures I've seen from inside the new stadium. It looks great, btw!

There are not press boxes on both sides, only the east side. The west side only carries the lights...and provides shade.

The East side press box is consistent with the trend of putting the media in less desirable sections than they once were. We're still a bit unusual in that the print media will have 50 yard line seats--most places nowadays shunt them off into a corner. As far as the glare goes, I was up in the press box for a tour after the Texags tailgate, and although it wasn't quite sunset, it seemed to me that the sun is not likely to be a problem. Maybe for the very first game, the sun might be going down in the gap between the west and north ends, but once we get to the point that the sun sets behind the west stand, it should be no problem at all. You are looking down on the field, and the box is set well back from the edge of the canopy, meaning that the suns rays can only get there when it's just about on the horizon.

Relocating the press box to the East side also aided in the two phase nature of the construction. It was not finished before the start of the 2014 season and it was one of those areas where work could continue throughout the season while the media continued to use the old press box.

The sun will be lower in the sky as the year goes on, but it will still set in Kyle Fields "northwest" corner, because that's actually west.
