Yeah; I took a lap around Kyle Field after the Sunday baseball game against South Carolina. I only saw a few workers. I do not get to Aggieland as much as I would like.

I know this is impossible, but the only thing I would change (way, way, way into the future) is to move the buildings on the south (Bright complex, Slocum nutrition center, Davis weight room) and destroy/relocate the indoor track complex and indoor practice facility. It is just a hodgepodge of buildings south of Kyle to George Bush Drive. If only I had 10s of millions of dollars, knew exactly where to relocate those facilities on campus, and could write the check next week. LOL.

And I could fix the "stadium mullet" at the same time.

I don't mind the looks of the steel structure on the SEZ, but it would be greatly improved with some super-graphics banners stretched between all of the structural bays.

You need to look at it from a distance to really make a judgment. And, if it still bothers you, then you just have to remember that the reason it looks the way it does is because it was built to accommodate 102,000 seats. Any brick facade would stop at the point where the supports cantilever over the Bright building, and would, therefore, only be visible at all from an angle like that shown in the image above. You'd still have a tone of exposed steel.

East side has 9 columns and west side has 11, guess we gotta shade more of the olds?

Direction, counting, or transposition fail.

Olds are on the west side ....

We just need to put a tarp with a brick design on the outside of all that steel. Then everyone will be happy.

It kinda does , but it also looks like something that can be finished in a few years as a minor project...I wouldn't be surprised if there's something in some file somewhere.

It looks like you are visually impaired and can't see the building that we were having to work around. If you recognize that we've got a pretty significant building in the way in the form of the Bright Building, then what exactly were the supposed to do? To have the faade that you apparently think is of critical importance, you either have to scale back the size of the SEZ so that it doesn't hang over the Bright Building, or you have to demolish the Bright Building. Obviously, the decision makers felt that the capacity number, and preserving our investment in the Bright Building, were more important than having a more uniform exterior for what is, essentially, the back side of the structure.

From most angles people actually view the south, Bright covers up at lot of the blemishes. Perhaps in 10-15 years they can scrap the current Bright, and build a 5-6 story athletic facility/dorm(or hotel) combo that would hide most of the exposed steel. The arms race never ends, so it's not a completely crazy idea...

Agree with Scotch. That's probably the long-term path.

I would think most understand the circumstances but it still looks terrible. Reminds me of this really:

You could demo a few bays and build up from that. But that's probably a 10-20 year future thing.

Couldn't they build a frame around the two bubbles, brick them in and do a straight roof across the top of each? Match up the brick color with the kyle field brick.

FWIW, UT has that steel girder look all around their upper decks. Also note lower end zone where they have the same "building already there" issue. Not a big deal.

The above is after a stadium faade renovation. Previously most of the whole outside was steel girder.

A fairly simple, and relatively inexpensive "fix" would be to install metal grill-work, or louvered panels, around the vertical columns all the way up to the upper concourse.. That would hide all of the exposed plumbing (which I think makes it look cheap and un-finished)...

I feel like the majority of the people who complain about the appearance of the south end zone are the people who haven't seen it in person

I was there on Saturday....it doesn't look good. The rest of the stadium is awesome, but I find it hard to believe (or easy based on recent leadership decisions) that we didn't plan for a better finished look to the SEZ. And don't tell me it wasn't in the budget. $480 million! We probably could have fixed the issue with just the statue budget alone.

It seems like a really inexpensive and easy fix-----either the metalfinish someone just mentioned, or tarps with past player pictures, or really anything. doesn't have to be major or permanent, or match the rest of the stadium, but more than just the current unfinished look seems needed.

Google maps now shows how it looked after the implosion of the west side:

Add brick up to the second crossbeams before they jut out, and then use the metal grill to the top, like the cotton bowl.

Done.
