Bumping to the top for any of our SEC brethren visiting that need a quick briefing on the history around the move to the SEC, which was way overdue, IMHO. A Few links might be of interest to them.

I followed this thread for years. Looking back, Dodds had quite the talent for putting his foot in his mouth. That man's ego knew no bounds. Same for Powers and to a lesser extent, Mack Brown.

Back when all of that was going in 2013, still kept in close contact with a good friend who was in with the Big Cigar group. He told me that Dodds and Powers had no clue what was coming and they would be forced out. The same group had tired of Mack as well. They wanted Oliver Luck to be the AD to replace Dodds. Luck was interested but only if Mack was fired before he became AD. He didn't want to be the one to fire him, three years removed from national championship appearance. Luck was also pro-expansion of the league back to 12 teams and reinstate divisional play and the CCG.

So in the end he was nixed (by Powers)and this guy was hired.



He fired Mack, hired Strong and then continued on in a stunning but very entertaining debacle of events. The Patterson era as AD was chaotic, to say the least. Powers got the boot several months later.

This is why we should throw a professional temper tantrum!!
