When I went to A&M the Texas A&M turf farm had two small lakes. I approached them and received permission to fish. I offered to stock one of the lakes with some florida bass and forage. They said "go for it" and by my Sr. year I was catching 5-7lb bass.
I think the property was sold and no idea how the drought impacted the lakes. Actually I just went to google earth and one of the lakes is labeled "Smith Lake". West Harvey Mitchell and North of 21. The image is obviously near peak drought and it doesn't look pretty.
The other place I received permission from was a tree farm on the way to Millican. Looked at it on Google Earth as well and it looks like it was nearly dry.
I see a Lake Prescott that I never knew existed between CS and Navasota. Doh! Looks nice and the link below says it is a public lake. Like all lakes in the drought it lost a lot of acreage but looks to have had plenty of depth to salvage the fish.
