INFO ON HOW THE SCHOLARSHIP WORKS:
The scholarship will be awarded to a student based on the criteria set forth by the family. It will provide funds to a student based on the Foundation's payout rate, currently set at 4.4%. If the scholarship reaches the $25,000 endowed level, it will provide scholarships to students in perpetuity since the Foundation distributes only the earnings on the endowment.

BlackhillsAg-
VORE!!!!
Wait, wrong thread...
But seriously, how cool is it that this thread and grassroots project has gained so much traction in so little time? What sold me on going to A&M in the first place was two Ags who were a big part of my life in high school and helped support me through their church, and even gave me my first job. So I'm not surprised this happened, because this is what Aggies do. I'm a little surprised it happened so quickly!
Anyway, Bath Salts has been keeping his end of the bargain by working out all the Foundation stuff. Now I guess I gotta keep my end of the bargain. TexAgs is great for this, but it's time to go global.
I just set up a Twitter account and Facebook page to promote the fund we've set up. Tomorrow, once I get everything linked and synched, I'll post links, a twitter ID, and the coinciding hashtag. I'll keep the content updated, but it's up to you to make it go viral!
Finally, I just had a quick conversation with Christine V., and tomorrow afternoon she and I will begin working on an extended bio about Joseph. She expressed her thanks to all of us. I let her know this is what the Aggie Network is all about!
So, look for the social media links tomorrow, then spread the word! Gig 'em!
**UPDATE 12.06.2012 4:30PM **Below is an update from 4:30pm (12.06.12) from the A&M Foundation, I've quoted the post on here for quick reference-

Thanks to the staff of TexAgs who graciously agreed to sticky this thread!
The Foundation is grateful for all of you who have contributed to support a student scholarship in the memory of Joey Villavisencio.
I was able to pull a report a little while ago and see that you have raised $950 today for the scholarship. Kudos!

That's JUST 4 hours, great work Ags, once we've spoken to the family I'll update again and let you all know how we'll be spreading the word. Thanks!
**UPDATE 12.06.2012 12:30PM **We have had contact with individuals close to the family and have received approval on the Scholarship fund idea so that we can move forward with getting it set up.
Joeys mom is a school teacher and won't be available to discuss specifics of other means to spread the word until this evening, so for now the Foundation has provided instructions on how we can begin making donations in Joey's name to get the ball rolling. These donations can be made in two ways:
1. By check to the "Texas A&M Foundation" with "Joey Villavisencio Fund" in the memo line
OR
2. Through the Foundations website with a credit/debit card.
To do so, first go to
giving.tamu.edu and click the GIVE NOW button in the top right hand corner. The following page will be displayed:

Follow the instructions in the image above to donate in Joeys name.
PLEASE NOTE: For Tax/Accounting purposes, the Foundation has requested that we refrain from using the word "Endowed"/"Endowment" in ANY donations until the scholarship has hit the required $25,000 mark to become officially endowed. Please use "Joey Villavisencio Fund" and all funds will be directed into an account where the Foundation will then work with the Family to identify how the funds should be dispersed. Should we not be able to hit the $25,000 mark to endow it (which I KNOW we can do), the Foundation said the funds will still be dispersed however the Family wishes, (i.e. we raise $20,000- the family could elect to do twenty $1,000 scholarships, etc.)
If you have trouble viewing the image, or if the instructions or info is confusing, please let me know and I'd be glad to clear it up!
I'll update again once I've been able to speak with Joey's family. Look for further updates about our plans to get the word out once we have more input from Joeys family.
