The whole point of voting for yell leader is to pick the best of candidates. I voted proudly for 5 for yell because I was in the Corps. But the last 5 years, 5 for yell had to reselect someone bc they brought in a kid who has a MIC, MIP, DUI, or Drug Possession. This infuriates me bc I stood against those guys bc I wanted to be a representative for the Corps and for A&M. They got selected and I didn't. This needs to be fixed pronto, but nothing will change.

This is an fyi if none of you know what goes on before 5 for yell candidates are finally selected for candidacy

I didn't (drinking age was 18 then) and neither did either of my daughters, class of '03 and '04!

I have a problem with the whole concept of 5 for yell. What if 6 or 7 corps members want to run? What if 5 non-regs want to run as a block?

Three of my friends wanted to run as a non-reg ticket a couple of years ago and were told that it would violate election rules. But 5 for yell doesn't?

In my opinion, I rather have a non reg win if he is a classy guy versus someone in the corps who has a record

They can still run.

5 For Yell is not synonomous with the candidate selection process. That does need overhauling.

For the record, 5 for yell does not run as a single ticket item. You can't just click a button for all 5 guys, you still vote for each one individually

He became a pariah because he decided that he didn't want to live with the decision of the Corps Block. He ran against the Corps selectees...and was successful.

A couple of details you left out:

1. The Corps Block was split due to Gary Kipe getting the majority of the Aggie Band vote.

2. Gary's Senior Boots were destroyed his zip year as punishment.

3. The election, coupled with some idiot cutting the redpots' log resulted in the BQs losing the outhouse for bonfire (PMC took it)

Many of us were shocked in the 1999 election when Dusty Batsell was selected over Scott Jarvis by the Corps Bloc. We greatly underestimated how awesome Dusty's stories would be at yell practice.

I have never heard of that story considering how close I was with the corps guys bc they were good buddies of mine. Flecher Massie, Lans Martin and Ben Debayle, and class of 2010 candidates

I'm not a big 5 for yell fan, but I personally think that at least 1 non-reg every year would be nice. Better yet, at least 1 senior and 1 junior if possible. It keeps the tradition of the Corps as yell leaders while also welcoming in what is highly represented in the student body, non-regs.

Good to hear about Gary Kipe. I am class of 2009 so I didnt know anything about that.

Whoever the milkmen are going to be I can't wait to watch them scramble again when Kevin starts yells without them.

Where is the integrity and transparency in the pre-election selection? It is the very definition of corruption and absolutely pathetic it is still held up as something acceptable.

I'm class of 2009 as well, and I never heard that story either. But I do remember getting chewed out by Keaton Askew, class of 2007, about not inviting him to a corps party we hosted with the other corps block for 2009. Soooo hilarious as he yelled at us in front of Danger '49

I don't get the corruption surrounding corps block. Core block is basically a primary conducted by a large committee, then the rest of the party votes as a block for the candidates selected by the committee. Y'all act as if they are buying their way in.

I voted for non-regs on principle and I was in the FTAB.
