I have read RGV AG's posts on this subject over the past several years and glad he weighed in again to set things straight.

Folks, if you haven't realized it by now.....Nike, UA and adidas are BRANDING companies. It's a branding world out there, it is not the world it used to be. Image instead of substance. There's a good chance that your Maytag refrigerator is made at the same place as your neighbor's Frigidaire, Kenmore, or Whirlpool, etc. Your Titleist, Nike, Callaway or Taylor Made irons could be forged or cast at the same facility in China.

It's time for a lot of us to wake up, look at today's true landscape and stop buying into the hype.

Nike did not match Adidas' price

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Adidas just did it -- again.

Texas A&M has signed a contract with adidas, the company told The Associated Press Monday. This is the second major university in less than a week to end its relationship with Nike and move on with adidas.

"We believe college sport is very important," said Erich Stamminger, president and chief executive officer of the Adidas brand.

The terms of the contract were not immediately available.

"We're thrilled to be working with adidas," said Drew Martin, assistant athletic director for branding and creative development at Texas A&M.

Earlier this month, University of Michigan ended its relationship with Nike and signed an eight-year contract with adidas. The adidas deal was valued at $60 million in cash and merchandise, plus a $6.5 million signing bonus -- the company's largest university deal to date.

Adidas said its goal is to "enter all school agreements with marquee programs that stand for performance, reflecting our mission to be the leading sports brand in the world".

Nike informed Texas A&M months ago that it would not match the adidas bid, according to the university's Web site. The Texas A&M System Board of Regents considered contract offers from Nike, adidas and Easton Sports, Inc.

The deal strengthens adidas' presence in the Big 12, with the Aggies becoming the third school in the conference -- along with Kansas and Nebraska -- to contract with the German company, which has its U.S. headquarters in Portland.

Adidas also has marketing agreements with schools such as Notre Dame, UCLA, Tennessee, Indiana and Wisconsin.

AgDotCom:

You are absolutely correct.

The company I used to work for had one last small bit of private label business and it was making the game uniforms for New Balance. The plant I ran we did Central Michigan, Harvard, Indiana State, North Texas, and all the other schools that were NB at that time, say 2006-2010.

I wish I had saved it and I think I did I just don't know in what file, but I got forwarded an email by the marketing guy of our company from the New Balance people and the gist of it was that they almost got the A&M business when Nike dropped it. In the end it was between NB and Adidas. We also did a bunch of uniforms for the various arena leagues, my God those people could tear up an outfit.

It would have been pandemonium on these boards, haha, if the Ag's would have been a NB school.

Most of UA's uniforms are made in a plant in Reynosa, Tamps across from McAllen nowadays. I think the bulk of Nike's is made at a plant in Iowa somewhere. Some of them were made in San Pedro Sula, Honduras but that is not going on anymore.

Reebok, when they did custom uniforms was an absolute joke, a complete mess. I was always shocked that they got the sips for those few years. Supposedly the sips ran them ragged with requests and other issues. Reebok got the hell out of that business.

Things would be a lot different in today's uniform athletic wear world is Russell, Champion, and a couple of other companies like Sports Bell and others had given away uniforms to big schools, instead of, God forbid, selling them to them.

FWIW Von Miller stuck with Adidas when he went to the NFL and had his choice of all sports apparel.
