I would love this guy at aTm!

He's a bad ass "get after the QB" style defensive coach. Experienced at OU, Colorado and MS defense this year was really aggressive.

Great choice! MSU has some stud DL recruits maybe we can hire the DC and get some recruits also!

Before people start quoting a lot of statistics on Chris Wilson's recruiting star rankings, consider if he is developing players and sending them to to the NFL.

The answer is yes!

Starkville is in the heart of SEC country and only about 100 or so miles from Tuscaloosa. It is a fact that players that choose MSU are going to tend to be rated lower going into college.

THINK SWAG

A&M must think differently now that we're in the SEC.

for instance Mark Stoops average recruited star rank last year was 3.71, he was 4th in the country in scoring defense, 2nd in the country in run defense, and 18th in the nation against the pass, now those are some stats I can get behind

fsu is consistently in the top 10 in recruiting year in and year out. ask favre why. msu is lucky to be top 20-30.

I think Wilson prefers a 4-3 but can adjust accordingly. A 4-3 would be better in SEC 3-4 in more spread oriented Offenses.

I'm thinking that we'll go the 4-3 route.

IMO, this would be an excellent hire for A&M. He has been building a very good defense at MSU and they seem to be doing well recruiting D linemen.

I'm hoping for a slew of coacing announcements starting Sunday. It would seem that KS is handling things well. Let the current staff have their day. After that, hopefully, he can start announcing who will be assistant coaches for the Ags next year (current coach or not).

I think were going to be a lot more successful with Demontre Moore's hand on the ground.

We have had a terrible time trying to recruit 3-4 DL's.

Great defense on that opening drive of the 3rd by that mighty wake forest offense.

Yeah, I heard that too. Didn't sound like what we have been watching for the past 6-8 years did it?

I have seen more LBs and Dbs break on the ball when it is in the air this game than I did all season watching the Ags. Notice how many white jerseys are around the ball when a Wake player is tackled?

Yes, they look well coached. Stay at home on back side, flow to the ball well. Not wrapping up well tonight, but they certainly fly around like the Aggies of old (RC and Bob Davie era)!

There is no evidence to support this claim. In fact, it's quite the myth. The 3-4 can actually be better against the run than the 4-3, but it's all about personnel. Our current personnel is better suited for the 3-4, but we need to give multiple looks regardless of what our base is. We need to run both.

Agree. The ability to disguise coverages is almost as important as having a bunch of bad ass playa's on the defensive side of the ball.

Hope we land Coach Wilson. Best "fit" out of all the names being mentioned.

Realizing this is not a valid stat - but if we had limited all opponents to 17 points this year we would have been undefeated.

GOT to get back to playing defense like we used to.

Wilson came and spoke yesterday morning and said he will not leave MSU and go to another University for the same position. Next job he leaves for will be for a head coaching job.

I hope this rumor is true.

This is probably the best rumor or 'thing' I have heard since the Sumlin hire.

Why?

Because it may indicate that Sumlin is thinking straight here as to the key importance of defense in the SEC.

The key stat...19.9 PPG at Miss State which is 3rd in the SEC West and 19th in the nation...means something.

For the last two years, the Miss State defenses have been greatly respected. Diaz and Wilson were key Mullen hires. It is an indication of not only their skills but Mullen's skills in those hires.

In the game in 2011 between Miss State and Alabama, Miss State was successful in the first half in somewhat curbing Alabama's offense. They did not shut them down..but 'Bama could not consistently move the ball until late in the 2nd qtr. Adjustments were made by 'Bama at half, and you know the rest of the story. But still it was notable.

Put it this way: I was relieved that A&m did not play Miss State in a bowl game this year precisely because of the respect of their defense.

This guy has what Sumlin DOES NOT HAVE:

SEC EXPERIENCE....

We have to have this if we are going to compete.

And something else this guy has....

He already has the recruiting tentacles in the Gulf Coast region. He is in the fertile recruiting area there...THE area we now need to penetrate to take advantage of the pipelines laid now that we are in the SEC. He can facilitate getting these GOOD and STELLAR defensive athletes in that region to now consider A&M.

It ain't happening...keep looking boys...already been dismissed from within MSU's program...Wilson is going to stick with Mullen and finish off what they have started....Our D is going to be sick next year.

If A&M wants him, A&M gets him. There are several good candidates out there though. It is VERY important we get this exactly correct.

I'm sorry, but nobody is parlaying the DC job at Miss St. into a head coaching job at any decent program. Sure he might be able to land some middle of the pack CUSA or Sun-Belt job, but is that really where he wants his career to wind up? I'm not saying A&M is the upgrade he needs to make that step, but turning around a defense at a program like tu (as Diaz has done) is much more impressive on the resume.

Excerpted from Seat Of Power: How The SEC Came To Rule College Football

http://www.omaha.com/article/20111231/SPORTS/712319797#.TwG_-TerUyc.email

"...Passing numbers skyrocketed the past 10 years as spread offenses swept through college football. But there's one league where the spread offense doesn't fly.

"We throw the ball way more than we ever did in college football," said Fox analyst Charles Davis, who played at Tennessee. "No one rushes the passer better than the SEC. No one. You take a good look at those high-waisted, high-cut, sprinter-looking defensive ends around 250-255. You ain't blockin' those guys."

Last year, Sports Illustrated examined where elite defensive linemen come from. The nine SEC states make up less than 20 percent of U.S. population. Yet of 309 defensive linemen on NFL rosters, 39 percent hailed from SEC country. They're elite not only in quantity, but quality: Nick Fairley, Marcel Dareus, Glenn Dorsey, Carlos Dunlap, Jarvis Moss.

The bowl format — where the national title game comes after a month off — aids SEC defenses as they prepare for high-octane offenses. Ohio State managed 82 total yards against Florida. Oklahoma (2008) and Oregon ('10) also struggled.

"Time after time," Travis said, "we've been told, 'Oh, this offense is outstanding.' And time after time, when they get the chance to go against these SEC defenses, they don't perform."...."

Defense wins the games in the SEC.
