Friend who coaches D-1 in Georgia (originally from Wisconsin) says Ags have talked to a Packers assistant for a staff position...

That's either Jerry Fontenot or, gulp, Shawn Slocum...

Nothing is wrong with Dat, it's just that he doesn't look to be retained with the coaching switch. I'm sure it sucks for someone like that who is at his dream destination, but now has to move on and only hope he gets to come back one day.

I think you could stick a fork in Sumlin if he tried to bring Shawn Slocum back in any capacity. I think it was RC's idea to replace Shawn with Hankwitz that got him fired back in 2002. Don't tell me we are going down the same road again.

I'm probably remembering this wrong, but didn't Shawn Slocum coach special teams here, when we actually had decent special teams, and man it has been a while since that has been the case!

Shawn Slocum is one intense dude. He has done quite well at the Packers. I certainly wouldn't want him coaching on the opposing sidelines. In my opinion, he would be a fantastic addition to Sumlin's staff.

The folks on this board only associate Shawn as the son of R.C. and, therefore, dismiss him because of a linkage to the past. That's fine and understandable. However, those folks probably know nothing about Shawn other than his last name.

His best bet is to stay with the Packers. He hasn't coached or recruited in the college ranks for 10 years and was not that good of a recruiter.

The post I was responding to pretty much dissed all linebackers.....and to address your point, don't you think all of the LB coaches and LB's worked together much of the time?

If Shawn S. is the best Kevin Sumlin can do, he doesn't have much going for him as a head coach. Thats like Fanchione hiring Torbush and then following him up with Darnell or Sherman digging up Joe Kines. Surely there is more to Sumlin than that.

Ensminger for OC, Hankwitz for DC, Lynn Amadee QB coach, Les Koening for WR coach and Toledo for OLine Coach. Who else we missing here?

(Personally, I thought "Mike Sherman Sings Ernest Tubb" was much, much better! :-)

Shawn Slocum lied to Drew Brees during a recruiting telephone call ...

Told Brees "I've got to take this call, I'll call you right back ..."

Brees, who's Dad is a former student, never heard from A&M again, and the rest is history.
