He's not a tier 2 coach. If anything, Sumlin is a tier 2 coach. You don't know what you're talking about.

The sad thing is he has never been offered a job for HC at UF, he'd have pounced then. He was retained from the Zook staff by Urban Meyer, how's that for an endorsement?

But he has to feel snubbed by UF; despite all his history with them.

Records should not be a determining factor. Chizik was 5-19 at Iowa St. and look at him now. Not too shabby.

After considering all the options, I agree.

Strong would be the best choice.

I think you got at least talk to him and see what his interest is and what kind of buyout there is. He is my top choice

At first I thought "Hire a coach from Lousiville???" but then I looked at Strong's resume.... All i can say is ...

As a Florida fan, I can tell you that Charlie Strong is one of the best coaches we've ever had. He is passionate, his defenses at Florida were ALWAYS prepared and his leaving played a role in the decline we saw with Meyer his last 2 seasons. Strong would be an amazing hire if you landed him. Also, you couldn't find a nicer man. One of my all-time favorites.

Definitely a leading candidate, if not THE candidate.

Be careful with Strong, because his top assistant is none other than Shawn Watson, the erstwhile Nebraska offensive coordinator fired last year, after two dismal offensive years back-to-back. If the Ags think they have QB inconsistency now, just wait until Watson is through with them.

Watson was Bill Callahan's OC, and Bo Pelini made the biggest mistake of his coaching career in retaining him. If the Huskers had any kind of decent offense at all in 2009 and 2010, they would have won both Big 12 championship games (lost 13-12 to Texas, and 23-20 to OU).

I am not sold on Charley Strong. I believe that all of this speculation is for naught anyway -- no way Loftin and Byrne make this move without having a commitment from their man.

I am predicting Sumlin.

Naturally, I'd want Strong to hire a (mostly) new staff.

I don't think he'd retain many from Louisville.

Since Louisville is in the Big East and the Big East looks like it will fall apart, I think the timing is right to lure Charlie Strong, here.

My gut instinct means nada but gut instinct feels better about Strong over Sumlin or Smart.

The fact that you're still throwing Petersen and Patterson out there as possibilities negates your opinion.

Strong with a solid supporting staff should be one of the top contenders.

He looks like a badass.

Based on what I have read and thinking the three main candidates for HC are Strong, Sumlin and Smart. First, I think we need someone who has head coaching experience. (weighting 51%) Secondly, I think they need to be a defensively minded individual. (weighting 30%) Thirdly, I think they need SEC experience.(weighting 19%)

That leads me to this ranking:

1. Strong 100
2. Sumlin 51
3. Smart 49

My guess is Sumlin will be selected, though.
