You can always build a more state of the art building. You cannot recreate history. This is why Fenway or Lambeau are more revered than Jerry World.

We can rework things around those seats but should keep the original 1920s structure in place.

Where were you when they cut up the horseshoe to make the zone?

I have this hunch that they are going to demolish both east and west stands and we will be playing a season in Houston.

What about Yankees stadium, pretty historic too....

Sometimes you just have to move on...

I bet you also think the new Yankee Stadium is better than the one that Babe Ruth and Micky Mantle played in.

Maybe the Cubs should move from Wrigley.

We are still playing on the same field. THAT is what is important. Make the stands structurally sound and create a new stadium to bring this program into the 21st century in terms of facilities.

The shape of Kyle Field is not why it is revered. If they exact same stadium was placed on campus in Baylor do you think anyone would fear it? No. You're stupid.

pv, I used to live in NY. I was upset about Yankee stadium. They went as long and as far as they could in the old stadium, but they didn't want to play a season elsewhere.

I think Ags wouldn't mind playing a season in Reliant if it means keeping Kyle in the same spot.

I never said it was revered due to shape. For someone who is so awful at reading comprehension, you are quick to call others stupid .

100 percent right. They wanted to give the stadium a massive face-lift, but they didn't want to play all their home games in citi-field/shea stadium again like they did in the 70s

You can give a stadium a face lift while keeping some of the iconic older parts. Even the horns did this on their new DKR.

Do it new, do it right.

We've patched up Kyle 6-8 times now. Nothing wrong with that but the years are starting to show.

The Ol' Ag mentality of 'I can fix it' needs to stop. Tear it down and rebuild.

The arches on the north side were the most iconic architectural element of Kyle Field. Obviously the arches were destroyed when the north end zone structure was built. Since the arches are already gone I'm not sure anything else is worth saving. It is really just concrete stands that remain.

This is coming from an Aggie who strongly believes in historic preservation. There are buildings that Texas A&M shouldn't have torn down. In my opinion Guion Hall in high on that list. Guion Hall was such a strong building they had trouble tearing it down.

Root,

No, the Ol' Ag mentality is not to preserve old buildings. It is to tear it down, build a modern looking structure that will look dated and awful in 20 years. See Evans Library, Harrington, Biological Sciences Bldg.

The iconic, nice looking buildings are the older ones like the Academic and Administration Buildings.

It's not the structure, but the 120 yard long strip of turfgrass it surrounds.

Sell pieces of the old structure to help finance the new one. Maybe use a few blocks of the old strucutre as decorative parts of the new one. For example, slices of the original concrete could be cut and polished and use as decorative tiles in new construction.

Just some ideas.

Old Main, I could not agree more on Guion Hall. It Illustrates the point well. Instead of this:

What makes Kyle Field special is the 12th Man. Tear it down and give us a state of the art facility second to none. Design it to maximize the noise from the 12th Man.

Yes it will be second to none for about 10 years. Then it will be kinda ok, then another 10 years and it will just look old like all those stadiums built in the 1980s and we'll want a new one again.

But Fenway just completed 9 years of extensive renovations. Do you want to incurr the expense of doing it piece by piece or ripping the bandaid off and getting it over with?
pv
How long do you want to ignore this user?
So tiger08, you think Fenway should just be torn down because it is too expensive?

Kick Kyle to the curb and break in the new stadium with cheerleaders. And never uncover or grab our nuts again. Did I forget anything?
tiger08

Its obviously not too expensive to the Redsox. If we had the money that the Redsox do, then no, unless it is structurally neccesarry we shouldn't tear down Kyle. But, as it is, we don't. The Redsox have a generational waiting list for season tickets and plenty of money. We can't say the same. But, outside of Fenway or Wrigley, who else has been able to accomplish this?

Old Main..
I agree 100% on saving historical buildings.
I was amazed to see the/your picture of Guion Hall being demolished. I was a freshman in 1970 fall semester and remember going into Guion just to look around. I remember sitting down in one of the theater chairs, it was pretty dark, no one else there, and I could just feel the history of that building and all that had transpired in her past. Was sorry she was leveled, but recall she didn't go easily. I think that was in early 1971 and don't recall what is in her place now?
tiger08

Also, Kyle was built in a very piecemeal fashion. While imposing, it has some bad sightlines, poor structual intregrity, bad restrooms, bad concession stands. Its sad that it wasn't maintained properly. Sometimes it is better and cheaper to start all over. Build for the furture while keeping elements from the past.

Offhand Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Horns all have parts of the old stadium.

I think LSU does too

Will they auction off the troughs? I feel like that is a piece of history that would go great in my dad's shop and would be an incredible present.

I did love the arches on the north side of Kyle. I was very sorry to see them replaced by the Zone.

I was a zip when they took down Guion. What a waste of a beautiful building.

Can't wait to have my very own piece of Kyle Field concrete to put on my desk at work.
