How long do you want to ignore this user?
Updated for the upcoming football season.

Map 2.0:

http://bit.ly/13Ug70l

New Map Features:

*Live Weather Radar
*Social Media, including Twitter, Flickr, & YouTube
*Updated places based on user posts (as of 7/22/2013)

I will maintain this map as I have time. This is just a preliminary version which needs to be checked and edited for accuracy.

Also, under "Bookmarks" I have all of the SEC football stadium locations saved.

**Note: Only the map will be updated from now on - the list below will no longer be updated.

Enjoy!

To all of the future SEC brethren, please list anything we Aggies must see/do/try when coming to visit during football season.

To all the Aggies, let's do the same for the SEC visitors. I'll start with a few things to do when coming to College Station:

Auburn, Alabama

Events & Attractions
  • Tiger Walk (Before the game - Began in the 60s with fans lining up to see the players walking from their dorm room to the stadium) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auburn_Tigers#Tiger_Walk
  • Eagle Flight (Inspired by Auburn lore; the story of a wounded confederate soldier and his pet eagle. Either Spirit (Bald eagle) or Nova (Golden eagle) fly around the stadium, circling over the student section before landing in the middle of the field. A sight to behold, and uniquely Auburn.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Eagle
  • Rolling of Toomer's Corner (after an Auburn win - These water oaks are centuries old and it's an Auburn tradition to drape them in white after a win) http://toomerscorner.com/
  • Golf at Robert Trent Jones Grand National http://www.rtjgolf.com/
  • Chewacla State Park (just south of town. Great park with a small waterfall) http://www.alapark.com/chewacla/

Food & Drink

  • Momma Goldberg's (Good greasy spoon with cheap pitchers, deli sandwiches, and a short walk from the stadium) http://www.mommagoldbergs.com/
  • Byron's Smokehouse (As a native Texan, I can tell you this is the 'que joint you will feel most comfortable eating at, unless you'd prefer your pork swimming in mustard. Tommy Tuberville ate here all the time while I was in school) http://www.byronssmokehouse.com/
  • Price's BBQ House (Mustard 'que, but they have the best breakfast in town and it's also right across the street from campus) http://www.barbecuehouse.com/
  • Bodega, now the "Bank Vault" (best bar for the average guy and right at Toomer's Corner) [/url]
  • Skybar Cafe (best place for the undergrad/Greek scene right next to Bodega. As such, it's also the best spot to take in the campus scenery, if you will....) http://www.auskybar.com/
  • The War Eagle Supper Club (Auburn's version of the Dixie Chicken, the watering hole you have to go to at least once. On South College Street a few miles south of campus, but worth the trip to order a few rounds at the Shot Bus (a "short bus" parked out back turned into a shot bar). They'll even give you a ride home if you need it) http://www.wareaglesupperclub.com/

  • Tailgating is everywhere on campus. Strike up a conversation when they holler "Tiguh Bait" and you'll be invited to drink and eat and drink some more. Everyone thinks their school's tailgating has the best food. Rest assured that these Cajuns can seriously cook. Cajuns take great pride in their cooking and they make sure they have plenty of food for everyone. No one ever runs out of food or alcohol. And regardless of what the Auburn fans say, you won't find a corndog on campus.
  • The Varsity Theatre http://www.varsitytheatre.com/
  • Golden Band from Tigerland Stadium Entrance
(really cool when they play the "Hold That Tiger" intro. Even gives chills to Bama fans.)
  • Mike the Tiger Habitat ("Cage" doesn't describe it. He has better digs than the rest of us.)

  • Stromboli's (for pizza/strombolis/calzones. Try the chicken ranchero)

  • Mugshot's Grill & Bar (for "gourmet" burgers. The peanut butter burger is good. The Walker is really good. There's another with a fried egg and grape jelly that's awesome. For the big eaters, go for the Mugshot) http://www.mugshotsgrillandbar.com/
  • Bryan Michael's Burger Co. (for great burgers and onion rings)
  • The Veranda (upscale - decent food. Good bar. Close to campus.) http://www.verandastarkville.com/

  • Anthony's in West Point, MS (upscale - Great, great food) http://www.anthonysgoodfoodmarket.com/

  • The Cotton District (a half dozen small places, but extremely frat-tastic. Ptolemy's has a decent selection of beers)
  • The Halfway House (has the best beer selection of any place I'd let guests go in town) http://halfwayhousestarkville.com/
  • Downtown (has restaurant/bars which are pretty standard fare. The State Theater has a really diverse crowd, depending on the night of the week)
  • Remington's Hunt Club (is a $10 all-you-can drink place. Karaoke on one side and dance club on the other)
  • Rick's Cafe (the big-bar multiple room place. Most touring acts play here) http://rickscafe.net/

Freebirds isn't mexican. Debate whether or not it has the merit to be on the list, but it isn't mexican.

I don't think it's Mexican either but it is definitely NOT on my list of "must sees" in College Station. Are we talking JUST bryan/CS or can we expand to say... Washington-on-the-Brazos?
rhoswen
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I might just have to back out of this thread... Freebirds and RUDY'S?????

I'd say take a Fightin' Texas Aggie Campus Tour. As a former tour guide, I loved gameday tours with fans from the opponent's team that were genuinely interested in learning about the University. As long as they stayed respectful, I would even spar a little with them on school stats, sports teams, or general traditions.

Definitely take a walk through and check out the sights!

Its not posted outside but you can start drinking at the chicken at 8am game days ( most days really).

If you are driving from Bush IAH or Hobby airport on a Friday evening around 5 pm, I'd advise avoiding US 290 West in NW Houston like the plague.

If you come to Gainesville, you have to go to Burrito Brothers. Just warning you guys though that every school will have the fans that are drunk and act stupid (especially when you win) but for the most part it's awesome here in the SEC. If you guys ever get to go to Ole Miss there is the Grove. Don't just show up for the day either try to make it a weekend and enjoy the towns, well all of them except maybe Starkville...lol At Tennessee they have the "Vol Navy" that comes down the River, that's pretty cool. You will not regret coming to the SEC.

I wish the Chicken would die as "the place" to visit if you're in town for a game. There hasn't been a hot girl in that place since 1994.

Go to the Corner roof.

As an Aggie familiar with Oxford (ole miss) I can tell you a few to-do's there...

The Grove: pre-game - free food, free beer, hot strangers that quickly become friends. You have never seen so many gorgeous girls at one time.

The Square: restaurants (see below), bars, square books, various shops

You must eat at:
Old Venice - try the crawfish rolls
Ajax
City Grocery

Not on the square...

BBB - Big Bad Breakfast: the place to grub in the a.m.

Abner's is their chicken place (layne's)

Rebel Rags: If you want to buy anything while you're there

Freebirds is not Mexican. I am Mexican-American so I think I am qualified to throw down the hammer. Another common misconception...burritos are not Mexican food, they are Tex-Mex! There is something similar to burritos in northern Mexico parts but it is not the same kind of burrito we are all use to.

But as far as general places for SEC fans to start off with:

-Northgate
-Campus tour
-Bonfire Memorial
-George Bush Library
-Yes, Freebirds wouldn't hurt
