Did you see Aaron Rodgers TD to Jennings the other night? That route cannot be stopped if QB and WR are in sync.

Alright sarcastic Jokers, rest.

Seriously, it's the touchdown pass - because there really is no defense to it.

I played safety in hs, so can't really speak to the cb coverage, but if they had the same problems as a safety, it's either the flag route to the corner, or the whip route (looks like the jiffy lube sign).

The hardest route to defend is a come-back when the CB's back is turned. Almost every CB will have his back turned at some point when you are running a vertical route in man coverage. When the receiver stops and comes back, he will almost ALWAYS have a huge advantage on the defender. It's time we start using this a bit more.

Where did the "comeback route" quote originate from?

I'll bite and agree it's a comeback.

I think a properly-run crossing pattern is more difficult to cover than a comeback route, especially when a "pick" is used...just my opinion.

No question its the under thrown go route on the back shoulder.

In one on one coverage, a post route.
Comeback route- can be sat on
Slant- can be pressed (get away with contact)
Go- Cb has the inside position
Out- inside out, more room for error
Back shoulder fade/stop- the qb defends that himself, it's an incredibly hard pass to complete at a high rate.
Post- the WR always has better positioning and a slight touch draws a penalty. Of course if you have safety help, it's the easiest to defend.
Double moves are incredibly tough covers (see texans play action breakdown on the Z Report) however that comes as part of an entire play scheme rather than rputs.

The route to the SEC! Sorry, just had to frustrate those who actually wanted to talk about foozball.

Seeing as picks are legal for receivers, most of the time it's gonna be a stop route where the cb and wr have already have a cushion between them.

I was slower than crap when I played but I can't believe how many times professionals completely turn away from the ball.

Bubble screen because the slot receiver can use the outside receiver as a screen and the completion percentage should be near perfect. It is a high risk/high reward play. YAC end up being little to no gain quite often and the chances of a pick six from an inaccurate throw are high.

As for conventional routes, I would say CB's usually cannot defend the short slants and the crossing routes. The problem is that there is usually a linebacker in zone.
