As we prepare to trade t-sip t-shirt fans for those of the SEC, I think it is important for us to get to know them in advance. Haha!

Maybe some of our new SEC friends that have joined Texags can give us the low down...

Who's the worst? Who has the most? ...etc.

Alabama and Auburn are the worst, followed by both Mississippi teams, then us and Tenner

Who gives a sh***. We need to drop the "t-shirt" crap.

I forgot about LSU. They are . . .hard to say either before or after the Mississippi schools. That's a tough one.

Gotta say I always thought the whole "t-shirt fan" moniker sounded snooty. I don't care if someone attended Tennessee or not if he's a fan. Attending or not attending "x" school doesn't make me better or worse than someone else.

That having been said I'll gladly discuss benighted fans in general. I think every school has them, and most call sports talk shows. All post frequently. I think most polite fans usually find other polite fans and likes-to-fight fan is usually good at locating like-minded individuals.

dr kevin,

When we are the only SEC in Texas, we'll pick up a ton of non-alumni fans. Drop the t-shirt bull****.

If A&M fans don't like T Shirt Fans. There not going to like the SEC..... As a UK alum i can give you a little insight into the "T-Shirt" fans you love to hate.

Collegiate Licensing Company released their figures on school merchandise sold last quarter.

http://www.clc.com/clcweb/publishing.nsf/Content/Second+Quarter+Rankings+2010-2011

(1.) The University of Texas at Austin
(2.) The University of Alabama
(3.) University of Florida
(4.) The University of Michigan
(5.) University of Georgia
(6.) Louisiana State University
(7.) University of North Carolina
(8.) The Pennsylvania State University
(9.) University of Kentucky
(10.) University of Notre Dame

In the state of Kentucky, your either a UK fan or UL fan. Its quite obvious why no one picks UL in the state of KY. There are no Pro teams in the state. What are the fans of sports in the area going to do? Sit around and mope about because they never went to college. They cant spend their money to attend/watch the biggest events in the state... I think not.

In states like Alabama, georgia, Tennessee, there arent many schools to choose to be fans of. Most peoples parent went to the schools, or relatives, and grew up rooting for the school their whole lives. In Texas there are so many schools to choose from. Its no wonder there is so much dissension among the schools.

Get over this T-Shirt fan thing. This attitude allows others to see the lesser qualities of your fanbase: Pettiness, snootiness, jealously and a condescending way towards others will never win you friends in real life. How will these attributes get you into the SEC?

To our SEC guests, Re the t-shirt sips, it's a recent phenomena. UT didn't have tshirt fans until about 2000, and then they were everywhere, talking trash (even though they actually went to Tx ST).

Now, Aggies have had to deal with actual UT alumna looking down their nose at us for over a hundred years, and it's annoying enough. But the thought of some numb nuts deciding he can take a run at your school just bc he went to Wal-Mart and bought a t-shirt after UT won a national title is a different matter altogether. Thus was born the great Texags
anti tshirt crusade.

It sounds like SEC country is filled with die hard fans that rep a school from birth to death. UT tshirts aren't that. They are frontrunners of the most annoying degree.

It's also not a problem to have non alumn fans when there is one flagship in the state. (ARK, LSU).

3) UGA
5) South Carolina
6) Florida
7) Kentucky
8) Arkansas
9) Ole Miss
10) Auburn
11) MSU
12) Vandy

Florida and USCe could be swapped
alternate Ole Miss, AU, MSU in any order
Kentucky you can probably move higher up the list in basketball season

Complaining about tshirt fans makes us sound as if we've never had any. We have... it's been a while, but we have. Also, you are giving tu grads a defacto pass. I get that you don't like the non-tu grad guy talking smack... does this mean that you are willing to accept smack from an alum?

I welcome "tshirt" fans. If you dig Texas A&M and wish to support the school and its athletic program (cue the jokes)then I applaud you.

Welcome home.

I have no problem with tshirts, to a degree. If some TxSt dropout started talking **** to me about being a ****ing Aggie that likes to **** sheep and like to sleep with my cousin, I am going to be pissed. Just as I would be pissed at some Blinn dropout talking **** to a horn.

last year i had the opportunity of sitting by some redneck boys from the great state of arkansas when we played the hogs in jerryland. they were talking mad sh** the whole game, and it was evident they might have boasted one h.s. diploma amongst the three of them. two were pretty cool, but one was especially obnoxious and they were trying to keep his drunk a** in check. finally, i got fed up and asked him politely "so what year did you graduate from arkansas?"

immediately, his bubble burst and he toned down and sulked like a little kid. his buddies actually thought it was pretty funny which made it even more embarrassing for him, and the look of shame he gave me made me wish i'd never said it. so, i say if a person is willing to don that ugly a** hog hat and drive 4 hours to dallas and spend money to watch a football game, i'm gonna give it right back to him, but i will never again call somebody out for not being a student/former student.

I get that the dynamic in Texas is different and why t-shirt fans could rub Aggies the wrong way.

But it's a little ironic for anyone clinging to that dynamic to cheer for a move to the SEC.

Back to OP, first thing that crossed my mind was:

1. Alabama
2. Florida
3. LSU

Heck, I don't care if Tennessee's t-shirt fans are in the Taliban - as long as Neyland is packed and loud, then I'm happy!
I certainly understand your plight though, watching assorted rednecks from UT Arlington, Tyler, Wal-Mart, etc. wear that puke "orange" crap. Nashville used to be a sea of orange in the 90s...now you see a lot of Crimson crap and UKrap blue speckled into the orange. Pretty sickening.

Y'all are going to be the representative of the state of Texas in the SEC. MANY Texans are going to want to support you in that. You will pick up a lot of Texans as t-shirt fans because you will be the "flagship" Texas team in the SEC.

We aren't going to think any less of A&M because Texans are going to want to support them.

Bring on the true Aggie fans who learn what they can about Texas A&M and stick with us through the highs and lows.
I love maroon and hate puke orange, so I welcome more Aggie shirts being worn. This is how it was in the 80's and 90's, let's get it that way again.

BIG difference when there is no pro team in state to root for. That is not the case for t-shirt sips. T-shirt sipdom is inversely related to the win/loss record of the Dallas Cowboys.

Haha! Wow. My question was light-hearted for laughs to pass the time and stir the pot.

I don't hate tshirt fans. They are a compliment to successful programs. I find them funny actually!

The fact someone feels so empowered by wearing a hat or tshirt of their favorite team. It's fascinating!

For instance, the dude that mows my lawn wears a tsip hat every time and tries to run smack on me for being an Aggie, knowing full-well that I'm a doctor married to an attorney and he didn't finish high school. It's comic gold!

I'm sorry my little topic got some folks hot under the collar.

I'm dying to get to know some LSU jokers who never stepped foot on campus. All the LSU fans I know are actual grads.

My in-laws are all Tennessee t-shirt fans. My wife being the only person to actually attend UT. They are already running smack on how we don't measure up, are going to be worse than Vandy and Kentucky, blah blah blah.

I LOVE IT! It's all in good fun...

I don't like the idea of labeling people "T-Shirt" fans either. BUT - I definitely don't like bandwagon fans - which I think characterizes a lot of the arrive late/leave early tu crowd. You don't see Matthew McC hanging out on the sideline when the burnt orange isn't making a championship run. And as most of us know, being a graduate from a school does NOT in any way automatically make you a fan (eg, most Austin graduates I know.)

If you look at the cities of Bryan/College Station, you've got a LARGE group of non-graduates who support the students and the University, who I'd never think should be called "T-shirt" fans.

As an Ag living here in Tennessee for 10 yrs now, I've seen non-students/non-alumni who support UT sports as passionately, proudly and fervently as the students/alumni do. While it wouldn't be right for these folks to say "my school is better than your school" because UT may not be their school, I respect them for wanting to give their time/money/emotion to support a sports team (pro or college).

I'm content to know that people DON'T know what it is like to be an Aggie or have attended The School and because of that, I can't really change their opinion.

Gig 'Em and beat the hell outta SMU!

T-Shirts fans of the SEC.....

Florida and Georgia have plenty.

I think my signature explains who and what I am. I do not have a Texas A&M T-Shirt, however I do have a ball cap. Does that make me a "ball cap" fan?

Sm_ac93 said it right. T-shirt fans aren't the problem. It's the bandwagon/fair-weather fans that are a pain.

Any person that truly thinks (for any reason whatsoever) they are better than someone else because of the school they attended has serious issues.

bandwagon/tshirt bla bla bla - it's all about a sport and entertainment. If you take fan ribbing personal, you are only exposing a weakness.

One would think that all Aggies would welcome anyone that wants to celebrate A&M athletics. It's all in fun.
