I've heard that a ton of times, and there is some truth to it. Doesn't seem very disparaging though, the problems with Kyle Field are mostly the bats and the difficulty of making it look like... a bowl.

Sips have called Kyle a tackle box for years.

Well it does go well with beer and friends, can bring you heartache or joy, and there are normally some pretty good stories that revolve around it.

I like that name. Been calling it that for years.

I'm not sure why this is a big deal.

If having a football stadium modeled after a Plano tackle box doesn't give us street cred in the SEC, I don't know what will.


And yes, definitely Germans bombing the moon on this one. Sips, swamp kittens, and most recently the Mensa members up in Lubbock have grown fond of this reference.

Doesn't bug me, and seems pretty appropriate given the look of the stadium.

For me, Kyle is all about the atmosphere and spirit. The makeup of the structure is almost incidental, and in all honesty I'm not particularly enamored with the look. There is certainly quite a bit I'd love to see changed if we had a bottomless bank account.

The "tackle"box would be fitting name for the home of a resurging Wrecking Crew.

I call it the tacklebox myself. It DOES resemble a tacklebox.

Kyle Field does look like a tacklebox.

That's what happens when you can't float $everal hundred meelion in bonds like NFL teams get cities to do when they hold them hostage. So you get this result...reactive additions to the stadium rather than proactive built for the future.

From the outside it looks average to below average. But from field level, it looks fantastic.... a looming monolith that makes you piss your pants if you're on the wrong team.

Tacklebox?

There are worse nicknames for a stadium. (I am not sure how you'd get data to make comparisons, but I bet Kyle Field has a higher percentage of seats between the goallines than any other major school stadium (at least before we added the Zone).

Tackle Box is pretty accurate.
But what's REALLY embarrassing is the jr high bleachers in the south endzone. WTF?

Sips have essentially the same thing.

Doesn't make sense to:

a) Not turn that area into revenue
b) Construct something more permanent that would be gone in five years, if not sooner

It does but does that matter.

According to a recent article Byrne said that at the end of this year (or maybe next) they will start tearing it down section by section.

I like Kyle Field but I like old stadiums and their character. It looked much better before the Zone. The Zone looks bad and very out of place. The endzone expansion should have tied in better with the existing structure. It is what it is.

Does anyone have pictures of what stadium will look like. Anything official and not the fan created ones?

I saw one on the company that build Cowboy stadium but that only addressed an endzone expansion and not the tear down Byrne is talking about.

Kinda like this nickname...
