I want to hang with Ubben because I'm 5'8" and tired of being the shortest dude in my group of friends.

It is amazing to me that some sip supporters and their respective media writers want to say TAMU cannot compete in SEC. The AGs were good enough to pull themselves up and be respective in the Big 12 last year. Sure I know they lost to LSU but most writers fail to state the loss of a key player in the first quarter for the AGS. The Tigers rightfully so took advantage of that event.

In conclusion the AGS can compete with anybody if they choose to do so. Who would have thought that they would have won as many national championships in the last 3 years that hey have and have been competitive in many other sports as well. Football was in a hole and we know why. It will always take luck but the Ags may have a real break out year in 2011. We will see.

Here is my simple argument:

Would you rather watch LSU at Kyle Field, or Kansas State? Alabama or Iowa State? Florida or Texas tech?

If we move to the SEC, money will POUR into our program. We would be the largest school in the SEC. We put out graduates that make, on average, more than 95% of schools in he country. I think a lot of people forget that A&M does not have an alumni base like tu because of our roots as a small military colege. Since the early 70's, hoever, our growth has been explosive. Soon we will have an alumni base closer to that of tu.

That means Kyle field will expand, donations will go up, and the TV money will increase.

That is why we can compete in the SEC.

People, the Big 12 has only been in existence 15 years. After going to the championship twice and winning it once, we had a cyclical down swing at the end of Slocum's career (due to falling behind with facilities). Afterwards ONE bad hire created a 7 year string of mediocrity. We haven't played in the Big 12 with a good football program since the end of the 90's. Our poor performance has been from poor choices, not because of the Big 12.

This has all been fascinating. But I do need to correct one misperception. The SEC has all schools, every football game available on TV. ESPNGameplan. You want to watch little Johnny play for the Ags in Tuscaloosa but you can't go? No problem.

How many times were we on TV last season?

Aggie by birth, Hawg by marriage! And a Grand 'Ol Dame.

I think A&M should be doing everything possible to get in the SEC. Get away from UT and their shadow, will improve A&M recruiting and bring a ton of excitement to college football fans in the state of TX. Should be a no-brainer.

I am all for playing the best because of the great rivals and great games it would produce. We have had probably the 2nd hardest conference division in football with perennial powers t.u and o.u., and some could tceh and OSU teams. The only thing harder would be playing Alabama, LSU, Arkansas and Auburn every year, plus some of the teams in the east. I mean, Mississippi State was 5th in their division and 15th in the country. It would be murderer's row.

People think our recruiting would improve enough to annually compete for a SEC title. For that to happen, we would need to consistently have top 10 recruiting classes. That isn't easy....

The Texas Aggies are a huge school with millions of resources right in the middle of the best recruits in the universe. Our chief competition for these recruits is tu.

In the Big 12, we will always be second to tu. We can't offer anything different. They get more exposure onntv, they get more money, and they own the conference leadership.

We've owned them three of the last five, and they still dominate the state's recruiting. With the current state of the Big 12, that will never change.

Going to the SEC turns the tables on all that.

Every time we schedule LSU, they are great and we suck. However, over time, we turn it around and own them, so badly they run away from us, limping back to their swamp.

Arkansas is a nothing school that has had huge success using the SEC to recruit Texas talent. If that little nothing school can use the SEC successfully recruit Texas talent, just think what A&M could do. We would be the only Texas school in the SEC.

Finally, why do you think the sips reacted so much when it seemed we may go? They used every ammo they had, even getting lawmakers involved to pressure is and sYing they would not play us any longer.

A&M to the SEC would absolutely change the game and would greatly narrow the huge cavern that now exists between our two programs.

Huge success? Highly ranked recruiting classes? ARKANSAS?

He probably doesn't want to find himself in the unemployment line or having to cover a nothing conference, although 12-2 is getting fairly close to a nothing conference.

Ubben is an idiot. If we go to the SEC with OU, then tu is likely going Indy. tu will still play both of us.

How do we lose? By not playing Tech and Baylor?

Please.....

By playing bama, auburn,ga,fla,lsu, etc.
It would be better for long term but man it would be rough at first.

If you want to see the Aggies in big bowl cames, possibly BCS bowl games, a chance at an undefeated season and a national title, and conference championships, then the Big 12 is where we need to be.

Are you sure about this? Explain to me why the MNC winner is usually an SEC team? Trust me, being in the SEC gives us the best shot at winning it all.

quote:
I'm willing to listen to almost any argument but comparing us to Bama is ****ing stupid.

I understand we don't have their history blah blah blah, but this type of attitude will hold you back. Perhaps the only real difference between us and bama is that they've taken the risks in the past that we haven't. How do you know that taking this risk won't be what puts us in the same breath as bama?

This seems to be the popular sentiment.

Ask ANYONE associated with Arkansas if they would rather be anywhere else.

Many people have said this, but I think it's BS anyways. Not only would arkie not want to be anywhere else, but we have a better recruiting base than they do. We have more potential than they do IMHO. In the long run, we'd be better off in the SEC than arkansas is. JMO and I can't prove it, but that's the way I feel.

Imagine this....if aTm and others from your conference came in and bumped the state of Alabama teams into the SEC East (Not trying to be a homer, but they did win the last 2 BCS titles), it would instantly create a more comfortable transition for you.... not easy, but more comfortable.

SEC is a win win all around for A&M. A&M has to look to the future. We might take our licks in football but the recruiting would get a huge lift. Walk into a recruits living room and offer him the chance to play against the best competition and in a conference has produced the most NFL draft picks.

Fans see opportunity for the program to grow in the SEC, and it's not impossible, but I feel it's much, much more likely that Texas A&M doesn't win in the SEC at the level it's won in the Big 12, which is already to say, not a ton.

This is what non-Aggies keep saying, yet no Aggie has a reasonable answer for it. If you can't win conference/national championships in the easy ass Big 12, how can you assume you're going to magically start stacking conference and national championship trophies hand-over-fist in the SEC?

That's funny....because Arkansas only started recruiting Texas when they joined the SEC? What about all those years before in the SWC?

Oh yeah, how has aTm fared against that "Little Nothing School"? I do believe Arkansas leads the series 40-24-3....

Piag94 - with all due respect, you're at least 17 years out from having a lot of insight as to what high school kids might want or not want.

High school atheletes want to play pro ball. They want exposure with a high profile team that's playing for championships. This describes the SEC much more so than any other league out there. And they want mama and all their friends to go to their games.

If you're a TX HS athelete and A&M is the only SEC team within a 4 hour drive then that affiliation is absolutely going to be a powerful draw...

Agree with Ubben. dont have to bash the guy for having an opinion that is different than yours people.

I think we are recruiting fine in the BIG 12-2.

quote:
Eventually, I think that we could be relevant in the SEC.
wow..or we could win the big 12-2 now! I bet that would help recruiting more than moving to the SEC, but I bet most of you would disagree.

Winning brings in recruits, nothing else.

People that are so obsessed with going to the SEC care way too much about tu!

I really am marveled by how you pro-Big 12 think that we could still win in the Big 12 if the NCAA rules that ESPN is a legal street agent who can break every recruiting rule there is on behalf of horn.

You really believe our recruiting in all spots won't be effected by them being able televise, pay and manipulate recruits and coaches?

You really believe that we won't just be playing for second place in everything along with the other suckers who stay in this conference?

Thank God you naive children aren't making the decisions.

The Big 12 is doomed. t.u. now has an insurmountable advantage built in with their LHN. It is time for Texas A&M to SECeed. Let the chips fall where they may. Those of you that are scared to compete at the highest level need to get out of the way. Texas A&M is freaking badass. There is no need for us to be afraid of the competition. We will rise to the top.

And this changes by us going to the SEC how? I'd rather ensure that cannot do this no matter what conference we are in. But yeah, how bout we just show them by just leaving the problem and proving we can go to the SEC. We will never have to compete with them that way, right?

are you all really this dense?

If the NCAA/Big 12 rule against tu then we will stay here.

If they don't, then what is the point of staying in a conference you AREN'T ALLOWED to compete in?

IOW, which is better: struggling to win because your conference is the very best OR never winning because your conference openly, systematically and unapologetically stacks the deck in favor of one member and against all other members?
