I guess it goes to show that there are lots of potential stars. Some will live up to their billing and some will flop. Some will rise far above expectations.

Give credit where credit is due. Sherman and his staff seem to be good at evaluating players and seeing the difference. It is more art than science and I like his results.

I just wish that instead of picking over 3 starts looking for the winners, he was picking over 4 and 5 stars. But, who doesn't feel that way?

I played with #44 Tory degrate and he was rediculous on the field, just couldn't pass a class. Played with Derek Johnson too and they were awfully similar in the classroom yet dj gets into and becomes an all American at Texas.

Really???

Bomar - if he wouldn't have been busted, he may have kept Bradford on the bench for a year or 2, crazy as that may seem.

Okam, Dockery and Orakpo were consistent contributors to a very good tu team.

Graham Harrell - ever heard of this guy?

Lendy Holmes?

That's just in the top 25. I guess you don't pay much attention to college football, do you?

The list has a lot of good players on it, I think think the point was to look at the guys A&M signed, where they were rated, and what actually happened to them once they got here. We struck out on a lot of highly regarded guys while other schools turned theirs into two and three-year starters.

The best part about this list is the dumb comments. This is my favorite:

6 Robbie Reid

He's black so he must be just like Vick. Golden.

You do realize that Texas A&M is a university in Texas that almost exclusively recruits Texas, right?

Look, a lot of y'all are whiffing on the OP's point, which is to take the supposed "can't miss, future all-world first round draft pick HS recruit" labels with a grain of salt.

We recruited a large slice of the supposed best of these guys that year and most were flops for us. Some of that was Fran's talent evaluation, which one can argue placed a premium on "star rank", and some of it was his lack of player development, which is pretty much unarguable, since it was obviously terrible.

Now, some may make the leap to say "Sherman is about evaluating real talent and who most fits his needs", and while that may be true to some extent, it doesn't excuse the fact that Sherman has definitely lost out on several of his first and even second choice guys this year and so his choices this year have been to a larger extent based on who he can get instead of just being someone who disregards "star ranks". To give credit where credit is due though, recruiting Johnny Manziel is an absolute coup. How the AP Texas Player of the Year is only a 3-star per the recruiting services is beyond me, laughable, and definitely hurts the credibility of the recruiting services as well as adding fuel to the fire of those who say their ratings are largely speculative and unreliable.
