My little sister goes to Vandegrift, and my parents said the high school dedication was amazing. She loved the ross volunteers who went out to do the flag ceremony. Also, every year on the day of muster they plan to have a rememberance ceremony in Matthew's honor.

Great story. Just another reason I am proud to be an Aggie.

While in Austin an Ag approached me and the rest of the Capital City A&M Club board and made us aware that some were actually trying to fight the naming of this school after Vandegrift. Seemed strange that anyone would fight it considering the school is located outside Austin, a more conservative area then the city of Austin. We wrote the school board, etc. I remember when they finally voted, the name won and so it sounds like it worked out. But there was some fear at the time that it would not. Glad to see this has happened and a really awesome tradition was started in his honor too. Thanks!
