I don't post much, but i think some of the comments lately are crazy. We've got better facilities, more national championships, a great football coach, and finally after a decade, an up and coming football team. Our AD has played a major role in this. I too was excited about the SEC, but something tells me after going 3-9 for ten years in the SEC we'd all be whining that we should have stayed in the Big 12. As for being in tu's shadow, I graduated in 1996 and honestly can't image A&M without tu. Two final notes: 1. I'm glad I won't have to watch Alabama hang 50 points on us in two years. 2. Has no one noticed the improvement in our athletics that basically dropped off the map after 1998? Go ahead an unload now.

Some folks have a hard time seeing the big picture....

We have better facilities because they WERE NEEDED. We were so far behind in the game, it is still hurting us today. I would hope that a monkey could have at least realized that.

But overall, yes BB is a great AD. I like him. Other than football, we really just cannot complain.

I agree. I was a little mad at first but I think he made the right choice wrt to the SEC. Cooler heads prevailed.

Although I may not agree w/ everything Byrne has done, I do appreciate all he has done for this university. No one should be happy about our history of football. The best year that I recall was when Fran went 9-4 w/ a win in Austin.

Other than that, March Madness and Reed Arena are now more fun than ever for us.

I have noticed our improvent and am thankful for his service as well. I don't agree with every single decision he has made, but collectively we are in better shape than before. In my opinion, we can only trust that this decision will help us to progress as well.

There are some who may, but I certainly don't have the credentials to run our athletic program nor do I have any idea what is involved in doing so. I am proud of our university and apprciate those who serve it regardless of my personal opinions (within reason, of course).

Compared to Wally Groff and JDC, Bill's certainly hell on wheels. (Ain't sayin' much.)

I believe that Bill has a knack for hiring good head coaches. Jury still out on what is by far his most important, make-or-break hire, but his other hires have worked out very nicely.

The man sure knows how to raise money and raise a ticket price.

This weekend, we at least had enough stones to stay out of the PacTeen... but I think all of this was way over his pay grade. Hell it may have been over our BOR's pay grade.

He is spewing the party line on how great our Crap 10 is. All of our officials have to in order not to sabotage the TV deal that is going to us our 20 pieces of silver... errrr... I mean $20 million of annual revenue.

But in the end, we needed a little more, and I'm not talking about money. I am talking about the ability to wake up, look in the mirror, and know that you are not some other school's valet. It's about having actual bullets in your weapon in future recruiting gunfights here in Texas. It's about manning up to the challenge of really BEING a flagship university and athletic program... one that inspires the state's best to show the nation that Texas kids can win it all in the nation's best conference. It's about making the last conference move that we will EVER have to make.

Maybe Bill, our President, and our BOR will be up to that challenge when the CBS contract with the SEC is up to be renegotiated.

I'm sure some do (athletes), though I myself never mentioned anything about T&F. But since you mention it, we have done pretty well there as of late, and Improvement is visible in many other sports.

As for the finances, this is part of what nobody who has not been in the office knows. We have been under great pressure to improve facilities and coaching staffs among other things. Do you say no and continue in an eternal mediocrity, or make some moves that put you in a better position even if you are set back awhile. Your the AD-what will you do?

Again, I am not claiming to be a #1 fan. I just understand it is a tough job.

I was looking for sarcasm from OP.

At least with previous ADs, the ticket prices were commensurate with the product on the field. The prices being charged for football tickets is ridiculous, given the state of the program. Maybe we need to go up to $250 per ticket to get us out of the hole he's gotten us into.

I agree with the Sentiment of the OP. Football definitely needs to catch-up, but I feel it'll happen sooner than later.

We have an iron clad offer from the best conference in the country. It guarantees us a full stadium and conferece stability. It also adds another 5-10 mil/yr in donations and we turn it down. Solid byrne decision.

Texas' AD AND president come out to do public press conferences and defend their actions...Byrne and bow-tie do not...solid move bt Byrne

I was dissapointed at first as well. But Moving to the SEC only made sense if the others left for the PAC.

1- Those 5 schools begged us not to go and offered the extra money to keep us from going anywhere. Now we doubled their money and more than doubled ours. That was a masterful move by Byrne and Co. to leverage our position for our benefit.

2-Yes he turned down an iron clad offer from a great confernece and $5M-$6M larger payout...HOWEVER he ended up with an iron clad offer from the Big 12-2 for $10.5M more plus $1M in fewer travel expenses and an easier path to winning. Great move in my opinion

Yes, I see a growing pattern of athletic success and it is now FINALLY starting to turn around the Football Program. I would have liked the program to turn first but....it's 10 times more difficult to turn a fball program around particularly when when had a "sure thing" coach run the program so far into the ground that it bordered on criminal.

Give Bill Byrne a break. He will get it done in Football. We are on the right path now.

ironclad? show me the deal making everything official and ironclad. here's a random quote from an article released today.

Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe said Tuesday he does not have a firm figure for future TV revenue, but "strong verification" from media companies and a financial nod to three Big 12 powers kept the conference together.

Beebe said he has no TV deal in place and will begin negotiating with Fox, whose current deal with the Big 12 runs out in 2012, and other networks within the year.

it's all about perception. how many times did you change the channel like I did everytime the mop from orangebloods was on Sports Center banging the orange drum? I know this is a foreign concept to the turtleshell reactions of most Aggies, but getting your University out on national tv is a GOOD THING!! If you can control and manipulate the flow of information on a deal as big as this, it's a GOOD THING!! I know it goes against everything they told us in Fish Camp about looking in from the outside and scratching you head blah blah blah but just b/c someone from the outside pokes their head through the Maroon door doesn't mean we should run and hide.

Bill is the best AD we've ever had. However, even the best make mistakes. A lot of folks think this Big XII deal is one of them. Time might tell the tale.
