I think Bill made is preference known when he stated his concerns for the student athletes and the travel issues. That might have very well influenced the BOR right there.

I have a problem believing anything about A&M from a sip website, but the article quoted does raise an interesting question to me...

What's the status of Bill Byrne?

He's had a pretty tough year re: the financial problems of the AD and the very critical audit thereof, maybe this indicates in a left-handed sort of way a lack of confidence in him by the BOR. They don't hire the AD, but I can't help but think that BB's tenure at A&M might be coming to a close sooner rather than later if the BOR were to go against his recommendation (if indeed they do) on a matter of this magnitude.

Bad year in football and he is out.

I can't believe people want to get rid of Byrne. We've doubled our all-time national championships take in a two-year period. He's made excellent coaching hires, consistently. He's all about winning.

Byrne has made several big mistakes. Giving Fran the big extension, the 16M loan, and announcing he will be condcting a nationwide search for a football coach and hiring Sherman the next day. Granted Sherman may end up being our guy, but it looked amateurish.
