He didn't change the offense that was in place that much.

1) Briles had them performing pretty well the past few years already anyway..

2) Hire a good staff (iTT's ex-OC, etc.)

3) Recruit like hell.

4) ...Aggies know from watching our 2002 offense.. and most know from watching OU's offense over the past few years, that Sumlin can freakin coach.

UH almost got kicked to 1aa because of crappy attendance because they are a commuter school and weren't that good.

Good coaches win and bad coaches talk about needing 5 years to build a program. It's that simple.

It helps to play an overrated okiestate team the weak after they play Georgia with all of the hype that brought...then get the week off to prepare for tech the week after they play Texas.

Beyond that, Kevin Sumlin is a helluva coach.

Uh was beyond aweful, that's why nobody went to their games. I don't understand why aggies defend our coaches when there are coaches across the country that prove their theories wrong. We finished 9-4 and 7-6 the two years leading up to shermans fieldst year. I don't know what cpigar high fit finished their two seasons prior to sumlin, but it pro ably wasn't much better. Using briles as an excuse doesn't make it any bettter since he is now at Baylor. Remember everybody said fran needed x number of years after his first season was aweful. Turns out he just wasn't a good coach

Your assumption is that UH needed to be turned around. It did not. Briles built a great team and Sumlin was a good coach to take over for him.
That said, OSU and particularly TTU are pretty overrated this season. We'll see how UH finishes, but they will drop one along the way.

one coach was FIRED, the other was HIRED away...two different situations.

they won their conference 2 years prior and went 8-4 in regular season the year before sumlin.

i think he is a great coach, but the OP shows a complete ignorance of the state of UH football pre-sumlin

7-6 at A&M > 8-4 at UH. Okie St and Tech both blew us out last year.

but I do know that Sherman has improved our team more than sumlin has improved houston. main reason being he started with more in place.

It's really not Sumlin at all, but that siren that goes off everytime they score....the defense wants to get off the field so that the offense can get back on the field and do it again. It's clearly the best motivational tool in college football.

I really like Sumlin and have since he worked here. When we were looking for a new coach, he came to my mind first. I'm happy for his success at Houston and wish him well. I think he will eventually move on to a very big program. The dude can coach.

UH did not fire its last coach, he got a better job because he was successful. There was no need for a turnaround.

No. Sumlin just beat 2 of our top 6 Big 12 teams. You got the second part right though. Sumlin is a helluva coach. Period.

Ummm...you don't get it b/c Sumlin wasn't on ANYBODY's radar 2 years ago when Sherman was hired. His boss was though. Sumlin didn't "turn around" Houston. Briles did. But I will admit this though...Sumlin > Briles (so far). 4-0 against ranked teams??? Impressive to say the least.

saying Briles was the mastermind doesn't mke it any better. that makes three coaches within 90 miles of us who don't need excuses, and our coach who "needs 5 years"

We need to reach out to Sumlin. He should be on the A&M coaching staff.

he's winning with someone else's talent, and chances are he won't be there to field a team of guys he recruited.

i dont know who will go after him, but i would think if this season continues the way it has began, some school somewhere will throw some money at him.

i'm curious who though. michigan state/maryland/virginia/arizona.

I knew Sumlin was a great coach when Dino Babers was demoted and Sumlin was promoted to Offensive Coordinator...and all of a sudden, Reggie McNeal looked all world. I was SOOOOOO disappointed that RC and Staff were let go. I thought Sumlin/McNeal were going to tear it up
