I think his statement was more about the hokies feeling good about shutting down a great team like A&M as opposed to trying to rub it in.
The history of the "lunch pail" that is referenced in the article is that we like to have a blue collar, workman like attitude for our defense. The lunch pail is brought out by the defense to every game, and a little piece of the turf is taken with it after the game.
Its like grabbing some sand when you leave the beach to remember your trip, to remember what it took to perform like that, and to inspire to do it again...
That being said, I go to all the VT games, home and away, and without a doubt your fans were the best that we have come across. Everybody was great both before and after the game. Sure there was some good natured trash talking the night before the game, but I didn't come away with one bad thing about A&M.
