I don't think he has a problem with the tradition; just kissing girls in general.
eddieag.. I have always kissed my date at the games, and everyone around me that has a date, I see kissing as well. Even up at the pitt game, I saw many an Aggie kiss their date after we scored (not that we got that many opportunities).

"She turned me into a newt!"
"A Newt?!"
"I got better."

Vision 2020

Eddie is representative of the "New Ag", circa 2002. Those "silly" traditions prevent us from being like every other large university out there. Step in line, get with the program. They are too expensive, too complicated, or simply too embarassing to continue.

In seriousness, I don't think sharing affection with one's date would ever be confined to the Corps.

And gig 'em.

Is it still a tradition that if we win the MNC that we get to shag our dates in the fiesta bowl stands? If it is not one I will be all for it becoming a new tradition! Whoop!

Eddie, What can I say to add to the others... mmm... -
well, this thread started out by talking about blind dates... I recall when I was a freshman in 1961 and the Ags did not win many, but had a blind date with a girl from Trinity - lucky me for that game - we scored over 30 points...
I have 5 daughters - each of whom love the kissing after a score tradition...
My wife and I kiss after the Ags score whether we are at the game, at home, listening on the radio, or whatever...
Perhaps if you took a girl to the games, you would change your perspective a bit...

I vote for kissing your date after each first down, I am not going to mention what I would like to do when the Aggies get into the RED ZONE. Whoop

Now, lets leave Eddie alone.

I have kissed my dates (future husband included) when I was a student. Even kissed a guy next to me at Midnight Yell once (didn't know him, but that was ok). I have kissed guy friends if we scored during a big game. Been married for 10 years and we kiss after EVERY score (PAT's included).

This tradition is alive and well. However, I don't like it when the tv crews always show the CT's mugging down.

I go to the games to watch football and break down plays - not for the bands. There are plenty of Aggie women who are like that!

eddie my man you don't know what you are missing. My husband gives me a kiss after every score and has for over 30 years. Personally, it's the best time of the game. When we first started we were kissing if we made a first down. I don't ever want to go back there again. '97 you might want to get a new girl. There alot of beautiful, modern women who love football and are very knowledgeable about the game. The times they are a changin'. bthovt, Marsha

I am a more recent grad and now I sit on the alumni. In Eddie's defense, the kissing thing is much less prominent on the student side. I attended games as a student from 1996-2001 and now I sit in the Zone. Over here, everyone kisses their dates.

My guess is that most people in college are single and or dating around. If you are dating around, it is awkward to demand a kiss from a girl in your group, especially if you are both just beginning to date. Even then, it is usually just a peck, and not the engaging kiss that always ends up on national TV.

On the alumni side, though, people tend to be with wives and long-term girlfriends. You don't buy a season ticket for a girl you've went on one date with. So it is more reasonable to expect this to be a lesser deal on that side.

In all of my experiences, Eddie is closer to right about the kissing situation on the student side. It is done, but definitely not by the vast majority....Enough to keep it alive and well-known, though....

The kissing tradition was alive and well when I was a student and it is still common at games. Very few people actually mug though. I think if you don't look for it, you might not notice it among people around you.

Either way, why let a good thing fade away?

what with all the kissing and dates at football games... a&m football games are starting to sound more like social events than football contests. :-)

My husband and I are both Ags, and we've been kissing after TD's, FG's and EP's for 27 years, whether at Kyle, at home, at away games, watching the game on TV or listening on the radio. And yes, when I was in school (before I was married) you were very careful who you went to the game with for that very reason!

How many guys actually bring dates to games? I know that is normal for CTs, don't most non-regs just go with their friends?

In five football seasons attending A&M (1987-1991), I never once brought a date to a football game. I didn't have trouble getting dates, I just never could figure out what the appeal was to bring a date to a game. I would rather go with my buddies.

Now I bring my wife, and kiss here after scores if I remember, but just a peck.

This tradition is highly misunderstood, and an easy target for Aggiebashers.

The only folks I've ever seen bash us for that tradition are folks that would bash us anyway for something else. I chalk it up to jealousy.

As far as fans of OOC teams, all I've ever heard is praise for that tradition.

My question is what do you do when you have a blind date who is less than attractive?
Hokielove: your answer is, watch out for blind dates! We always went with dates and always kissed, briefly, just a peck, for those that you didn't know well (yet). Often it served as the icebreaker. However I did go with an old buddy from the hometown one time. We put 56 or 58 points up on Rice. First score, I turned to her and it was "not on your life, buddy..."

Choose your dates with an eye for an open mind, and the kissing will be happening.

Eddie: Lighten up, choose well, and pucker up, buddy! It's very good bull, and completely acceptable.

The 2nd best tradition HAS to be the practice that you get at Midnight yell for kissing after scores. The lights go down and it's muggin' time.

I wonder how many thousands of Aggies through the years have used this very nice opportunity to get to 1st base...

i kissed my wife back when we were students after both td's, fg's and extra pt's. it's a great tradition! but, it's pretty gross seeing pimple-faced ct's or anybody playing tongue hockey in the stands. just keep it too a peck guys!

Amen brother.

As to Texas97's comments - after living in Austin for a few years and attending a few games there, I can honestly say, I wouldn't bring my wife (or kids) there either. The language is terrible. I may be a little old fashioned, but I don't need to hear "f***ing this" and "f***ing that" or "f*** you Aggie" every 2 minutes with them around.

Texas97, not only do we appreciate football, we are very in the know. In fact, I have been known to scout high school football, like keeping track of assisted and unassisted tackles, yacs and etc. Our family comes early and stays late for real.... bthovt, Mark's wife, Marsha

The sad thing is, "eddie" running his mouth and mis-informing a lot of people with his totally inane reports about the kissing at games. Hopefully he hasn't told too many.

Eddie, I can assure you I have gone to waaaaaaay more games than you, being a Former Student for 20 years. From a lady's point of view, it's one of the BEST traditions at games!! Trust me - you're freaking WRONG about the "no kissing" thing. Now go get a real date, and quit hanging out in the pasture with your favorite farm animal. No wonder you never get kissed....

my friends still would have given me a hard time about bringing a date to a football game, even if she knew what she was talking about or just acted like she did. we had a block of tickets of about 10 guys. it would have been hell. but it sounds like there are alot of people bringing dates to a&m games. i was surprised by that.

I'd rather go to a football game with a 5'8" blonde beauty than any of my guy friends. Matter of fact, I'd just about rather go anywhere with her than any of my buddies, if that would mean leaving her behind. She's a better wing shot than most guys I know, she guts her own doves and quail, and she aint afraid to bait her own hook either.

Sounds like you need to trade yours in for a newer model, Texas97.
