I went to a convention this week, and one night another company threw a party, and we were given arm bands for free beer.

I went up to the bar and asked for shiner and the guy responded we will only give you domestic beer.

I thought to myself that's great I still want a shiner. He informed me it is a mexican beer.

Had to settle for coors original, can't complain too much due to price.

Aggie related because I am sure some shiner will be consumed at tail gates coming up.

He's wrong. Shiner is domestic.

Spoetzl is owned by Gambrinus Company. Same co. that owns(ed?) Corona, Modelo, etc.

it's considered a Specialty beer...I always joke with the ownern's of the Cistern Country Store a hard time since it's the closest brewery to them and they charge more

A lot of bars list it as an import since it is higher quality than a miller lite

Its made 45 min from my hometown which is in Texas, cant get much more domestic than that. Thats funny.

Is the beer in the background Shiner? Definitely looks like it. They never do the close up. But the bottles all have the same marking and look exactly like Shiner.

My family still has it's reunion in Shiner every year. We are from the Patek / Holub side of that area. Yes, Shiner is a specialty beer, but it is a Bavarian recipe (lower-east Germany)...

The availability of Shiner creeps slowly toward New York City. We've been able to get it in Maryland for a while now and it recently became available in Western Pennsylvania. We can get it in State College, PA, so I'm hoping it won't be long before it's available close to our property in the Poconos.

Shiner Bock is just miller lite + food coloring. If you want a good Texas beer, support Texas craft breweries.

RUB BBQ @23rd and 7th in NY has Shiner. $6 a throw but Coors Light etc. are at least $4 at most of my hangouts so it seems reasonable.

NY A&M Club is trying to figure out a way to have it at our game watches this fall. Overlook would be cool with it; it's just getting it here physically that is the problem.

Shiner is also the beeer of choice on the show "Two and a Half Men."

Has anyone tried the Shiner Smokehaus yet? I saw it at the store and I'm curious if it is good or not.

I've tried the Smokehaus... let's just say it's the first Shiner beer I've really disliked.

I have friends that enjoy it but it's not for me. Tastes like they put a couple of drops of liquid smoke in the bottle.

My thoughts exactly. It is definitely not a drinking beer. More of a beer to wash down bbq.

Jak se mas, Spreadsheet Ag! Ever heard of Sweet Home, Texas? That's where my family reunions are. I remember as a kid they had Shiner kegs, and it was just considered "the local beer". We frequently use Patek's for catering.

My wife's family has a home in Moulton, and we see signs with the Holub name, and there's a Patek's store in walking distance.

My dad and my wife's mother were both born in Shiner. I hope to retire somewhere in that direction in 25 years or so....
