I'm gettin married, Ags, and I need a referral to a good baker who can make me a good Aggie groom's cake.

I'd prefer Kyle Field, but could do other styles too potentially. The wedding is in DFW area.

Preference given to reasonable prices and companies that are Aggie owned or have Aggie employees, of course.

Got any contacts for me?

(Yes, I've done searches -- most of the threads have pics but no actual bakery names...)
(And Yes, I will be ignoring all of the trolls, especially ones that imply I'm ghey for wanting said cake)

I would try Cake Carousel on Central Expressway just north of Arapaho in Richardson. Phone 972-690-4628. They are not a bakery, but a cake decorating supply house that also gives lessons. They probably would be able to put you in touch with one of their customers who may be able to help you out.

CremeDeLaCreme(sp?)'s cheapest Kyle Field is $2100.

However, I am discussing some other ideas that are more in my $500-$800 price range.

They've been very responsive and attentive so far.

I could still use a couple more referrals though as I want to explore my options... Any help appreciated.

My Mom took cake decorating classes on Central in Richardson like 30 years ago... I think I know the place you're speaking of and I'm pretty sure that's the place she took lessons! I'll give them a call!

Dallas Affaires wants $2500... I'm hoping to spend a little less than half that... but maybe I'm out of my gorde....

I'd gladly accept one with much less detail... but I think the cake companies probably fear doing that because then it might make them look bad since it's not as fancy/detailed... I dunno....

Use some of the space on the cake and sell it to some sponsor's. Kyle field style.

They did both of our cakes, and they were AMAZING! We've also had them do the last few birthday cakes for the wife, and the boys.

I like the Creme de la Creme cake with the Block aTm on it - not over the top like the Kyle Field cake, but still an Aggie cake.

We had a basic chocolate sheet cake with the Gig 'Em thumb on it.

Edit: And it was 25 years ago in East Texas, so I can't really give you a good referral on it.

I am getting married next week and going for a grooms cake in the $20 range. You guys are crazy. Although, those Kyle Field cakes are sweet.

You have any pics of your cakes by chance? I've seen stuff I'm impressed with on their website, and stuff I'm not impressed with.

Bonfire is sort of a distant 3rd choice for me. That's my fallback's fallback plan.

Oh, and Creme De la Creme wants $2100+ for Kyle Field, or $5500+ for their original one that you see pics of everywhere (the huge one).

Guy works out of his home and makes cakes on the weekend. Would highly recommend.

Talking to my wife who might be able to help you out with a phenomenal looking cake that is not extraordinarily expensive.

She is a 2005 graduate of A&M and has done numerous elaborate wedding and groom cakes, mostly for friends and family as it is something she enjoys and has a passion for doing.

She did mention that any Kyle field cake would be a good value at $2,100 as it would be very time consuming to sculpt in detail from a cake. However, any of the other ideas thrown out seemed very workable to her in the price ranged mentioned.

She is reviewing what you are looking for now per the postings above. I will give contact information only if she feels she has the time to give the best effort to when you are needing the cake completed.

I've got to say that I was rather pleased not to see any UT cakes.
