That's impossible to accomplish.

Their mouths are so full of crap their lips will never touch. Therefore it is impossible for a longhorn to shut-up.

"This month, Texas Monthly magazine proclaimed the Horns this fall's No. 1 team with a cover photo of UT quarterback Chris Simms standing between Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman.

No offense to Simms, but that's like posing Vanilla Ice with Ray Charles and Mick Jagger."

Well, no. I haven't been to many since I graduated. It's hard to commute between here and Texas.

But, while in HS in Dallas and in the Aggie Band, I did see the tu band many times (Yes, I was in the Cotton Bowl when they played Navy). And I'll admit that under Vince Denino, the tu band put on some good halftime shows, living up to their nickname as the "Showband of the Southwest". We could still march rings around them, and musically they couldn't hold a candle to SMU.

So, for the past 30+ years, the only exposure I've had to the tu band has been when the tv folks acquiesce to show them. And, ever since Mr. Denino retired, all I've ever heard on tv is those three tunes...the only halftime I've seen is the tu band writing a script "TEXAS" while playing March Grandioso. It's like that one show is reserved for tv. It reminds me of going to today's HS games, where once you've seen the halftime, you've seen it for the entire year.
Well, let me qualify that...there was the post-Bonfire game.

Still, today's tu band pales in the shadow of those back in the '60's. And UF, FSU, FAMU, and the other bands I'm subjected to here.
However, they're still a step above tt.

One Southwest Conference band director of the (Adams) era reportedly said "I dread going against the Aggie Band...It takes two weeks to recover from the trauma."

The only thing that will shut a teasip up is an Aggie Victory on T+1.

Who cares if the War Hymn is about t.u. I like it. They are our big rivals. At West Point a freshman cadet must say "Beat Navy" every time they make a 90 degree turn. At least I heard that somewhere. And no one says Army is dumb. t-sips will always say we are obsessed, but they are obsessed as well. The War Hymn the way it is makes it a great rivarly, and the t-sips think everything they are associated with is great, so wouldn't they want it that way?

As far as the t.u. band, playing show tunes while standing on a football field doesn't separate them from any other college band in my opinion. Neb. plays March Gradios as well. (jeez I need to learn to spell.) I think t.u. and tech bands should play it at the same time. And yes, they mention A&M in their fight song, and they march into the stadium with a flag for every team in the conference but A&M. Is that not obsessed?

impossible! there is no way to shut up the arrogant, obnoxious verbage of a winning sip and worse the whining, moaning, lets fire the coach or booing the quarterback of a losing sip.

Absolutly not true.

Longhorn Band has long marched many flags representing Texas and two other flags for every other school in the conference. This tradition started with the SWC and new flags were handmade by the Longhorn Alumni Band prior to the start of Big XII play.

So at least two A&M flags fly with the Longhorn Band at every Texas game. You may have seen them at the "Bonfire" halftime show in 1999.

The Texas flags were lowered while the A&M flags remained high to show LHB's support for A&M.

If you're interested, that show's online here:

Texas Jeff--
No doubt, the LHB's tribute in 1999 was complete class.

Both schools mention each other in various ways. That's what makes it one of the best rivalries in football. I don't dispute we are obsessed with beating ya'll--I know I want to win that game each year more than any other.

Just looking for ammo in my annual pre-season, can't wait for the season to begin, banter.

See you T+1

From the tu band page:

"Unlike any other band in the country, The Longhorn Band prides itself in performing a new halftime show for every home game."

You think The Band (that's the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, to non-Aggies) doesn't pride itself for doing a new halftime drill for EVERY game?

Of course, even the tt band made claims that were erroneous.

I can't speak for 95% of the schools in the nation, but I'm sure you're mistaken.

Texas Jeff, I went to the texas vs. uh game in 2000, and there was a flag for every team in the conference except A&M. I went with my texas buddy and my wife, girlfriend at the time. I remember it because everyone around us was laughing at it. So I guess it was just that one game? Watch close this year and see if you see it.
