On October 10, 1998 I attened the 1939 National Champion Football Team Ring Presentaion. I sat at a table near John Kimbrough and actually held his ring. Somewhere here I think I have a picture or a sketched image of the ring. If I can find it I will try to figure out how to post it. I have my invitation, signed by John Kimbrough, framed at next to my computer. It was a wonderful event.

No, it's not, the University didn't recognize the team until 1998.

I work with an Ag who is the grandson of one of the players on that team. I have held the football he has with all the team members' signatures. I will ask him about his grandfather's ring. He was going to donate the football to the school -- I need to ask him about that anyway.

He just means the school didn't perform a ceremony until 1998 (or 1999 if the photos from that book or labeled correctly... or both).

Maybe I choose my wording poorly, but I was trying to get at the fact that the team didn't get their rings until much later. I know that A&M has always claimed the championship.

They said they were passing it around on the train home from New Orleans, and since then it vanished into a time warp.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but you've got to love $Bill's ego sometimes. Weren't we coming off an 0-16 conference season? Would you really consider raising prices in that situation? Obviously, $Bill would.

I was flipping through an Aggieland Illustrated magazine at Hastings the other day and swear I saw that Sugar Bowl trophy in the issue with an explanation of how they just found it.
So if anyone really wants to see a pic of it, maybe go check that out.

Javelina-I can get you a couple pictures next time I go home. I have my grandpa's ring at my house. It will be a couple weeks though. probably end of january
