Mike DeNiro died about 1969. He was from Youngstown, Ohio. Great player while he was
here. Recruited by Gene Stallings. Played
a little baseball also and spent a lot of time at Northgate playing pool! He died in La.
(drowning). I think he was there for the Ross
Brubacher (sp) wedding, another great A&M player from Lafayette.

Thanks. The other player you mention Ross B.
I always loved hearing the Kyle field anouncer say his name along with Krueger. The anouncer would always drag out the names.

Deniro died in a car accident in Louisiana. The car over turned in an irrigation canal and Deniro drowned, he could not swim.
The announcer was C.K Esten, the voice of Kyle Field for many years, he pronounced Brupbachers name as BROOBOCKAAA. Esten coined the phrase, "WELCOME FOOTBALL FANS, TO KYLE FIELD, THE HOME OF THE FIGHTIN' TEXAS AGGIES."
He was a legend, the best!!!!

"And on the tackle was Cortez, Deniro, Brupbacher, and Hobbbbbbbbbbbbbs"

In 1974, C.K. Eston(sp) was a substitute for our main speech professor, "Dr. light in the loafers". Being a "Zip" with boots, I asked him what was his most exciting moment while broadcasting from Kyle Field. He said that at one game, after his famous "Welcome to Kyle Field, Home of the Fightin' Texas Aggies" chant, the Corps did not "wildcat". He said he was unaware that he did not turn off the microphone. He then stated, sound loudly in Kyle Field, "Wildcat you bassstarrrrrrdddddds".

Can anyone verify this story? This would have happened in the 1960's.

That's a true story!

As for Mike DeNiro, he was a great athlete, destined for HoF greatness as an Aggie, before his untimely death after his sophomore year. He was about 5'10", but could dunk a basketball. He played a standup DE in the 5-4 we ran then.

My Dad was class of '72 and played fullback. I attended several of his football reunions, and often heard stories of the announcer (I assume still Esten?) calling out Steve Luebbehusen's name - "starting at linebacker - Steve Looooobaaahooosin!" Something like that.
