I thought it was originally launched in the 1940's to help spread the news of the horrific Nazi attack on the moon. However, due to an overwhelming lack of internet service at the time, it was shelved until the late 1990's.
Do not confuse Longhorn Bob and Hookem though, Longhorn Bob (Bob Wheeler) started hornfans.com with partners?
Hookem was one of the original message boards/chat rooms on the internet sport/team specific. Since no other schools had anything back then, many fans from other schools went there too.
Since it was started by the AAS and I knew a few people in the Texas Athletic Department that were consulting on it, I was overthere early on and worked with them as a Grad School Project to develop the GoBig12 into a broader site.
Since Longhorns were running it, they had a very difficult time letting go of their control and bias towards Texas and people were just ready to revolt at being censored.
i'd be interested in seeing a graph that shows the number of posters over the years or months. it seems the site has really taken off in the last 2 or 3 years.
what really blows my mind are the people who have been a member for less than a year and already have legend or hall of fame status...i've been here since '03 and am nowhere near that.
Ahh, I remember the old GoBig12 website... I mostly just did a lot of reading (like I still do on here), but finally decided to post some here and there... of course, I still mostly ready...
I was around this board since '98 then left and returned. Obivously the crash wiped out my early identity. Was on GoBig12 too. I still remember how the majority of tu fans were pissed that they got Mack versus Gary Barnett.
texlarry's post was unforgettable.

Peter Kuo started it up. His son and my son are best buds in 6th grade and our daughters are also in the same 4th grade class (here in Ft Worth). Saw him just today freezing his tail off while waiting to pick up the kids from school. Real nice guy. Good Ag.
Yep. And, BadOleWolf and Pierce something or other. A whole host of pig **** was on that board. I tried to get some of the texags posters to read it to see just how deeply despised we are by arkansass in general. But, the provincial blinders, and maroon glasses prevented it from happening. It might have been an instructive experience as we get prepared to play the razorbacks in 09. Oh well, history repeats itself, at A&M routinely.
I was wh00p on gobig12 and 00Ag here before the crash. I remember Branding Iron and ExUTex used to go at it. Funny stuff! Many people came to this site when it was discovered that gobig12 was owned by AAS. The cool thing about that site was having fan exchange from all the Big XII schools, but once so many Ags came here, that site sucked and no longer exists.
