One of the things I noticed most about Saturdays game was our inability to tackle. Lots and lots of arm tackles and bad angles. Is tackling that looked that bad a game to game issue or are we looking at a year's worth of it?

It's been an issue for 3 years. Open field tackling is a big weakness.

It can be improved to certain extent, but it is also related to our lack of speed

the tackling drills this off season with kines were much much better than with fran...and he made the go over these reps many times......i think we are doing better this year than previous years with wrapping up

Work on recruits--Ags can't give up on getting Tom Wort and his hs teammate R Grametbauer. They could improve our tackling right now. Anyone remember Linebacker U? Remember the Wrecking Crew. These guys could help. Wort is a must have!!

RC used to turn a handful of sheep loose on the practice field and have the wrecking crew catch em. I think it is easy to trace the fundamental decline in our tackling ability since that drill was eliminated.

it's sickening to think that our program has lost all respectability since we STOPPED chasing sheep around fields

Its not rocket science. Get to the football and wrap up. In an open field situation, break down and use the sideline. Its a day one fundamental. Lack of athleticism is the real problem.

You nailed it with the "Lack of athleticism..." sentence.

Open-field tackling has been an issue in large part because Big 12 receiver talent has risen exponentially. In order to break down and lock in on the ball carrier's hips, you have to be in a position to do so. The problem is, our CB's are playing catchup too often and aren't positioned deep enough to do so. The key is being DEEPER than the receiver when the catch is made.

This is why Darnell had our CB's lining up 15 yards off the ball.
