First off, who thinks they know some info about Marvin Tate without looking up his name?

He still lives in college station.

Surely you weren't discussing his resume with him. What did you talk about.

So the quick story is that he got ran out of his job as the athletic director after working his way up as assistant athletic director for more than 10 years because of a name that is familiar to me, Harvey (Bum) Bright. He was having issues with the womens athletics, but still has some pent up anger with Mr. Bright for costing him his dream job.

Instead of running away, he stayed to have an impact in college station and became the mayor of Bryan for 10 years. He is also one of the junction boys.

I had this conversation at a local horse barn where we were both out taking care of our wives horses.

I just thought it was an interesting story.

He was also a Junction Boy.

The University President, Jarvis Miller '58, refused to shake hands with the female cadet. She was suing the University. I digress. It was not Marvin Tate.

Marvin's son, Marvin Jr., lives up in this part of Texas and runs a cell phone company. He's very successful and one of the nicest men I've ever known. The senior Mr. Tate is a great man as well. I've heard a lot of great stories about him.

It was Jarvis and not Marvin. Melanie was in the ceremony that I got my degree in and I witnessed that first hand. There was also a chorus of boos as she crossed the stage. It wasn't the greatest of moments.

Isn't he the brother of Bewitched character, Larry Tate? (You know - Darin's boss at the advertising agency?)

Grew up with Marvin Jr and used to date Jarvis's daughter. Man is this thread bringing back memories.

He was smallish, scrappy, tough guard on the football team.

My wife loves talking to him and actually never knew who he was until tonight. She says he is very humble and they have talked and known each other for over 2 years with no conversations about athletics.

I would say for someone who know what he knows and to not force that on someone is a great show of character.

I would also like to say he had a great handshake.

AB... Not to go overly negative but I think you should apologize for falsely accusing Marvin Tate of not shaking a woman's hand when it was definitely not him. Bad bull to accuse when you are not certain of your facts.

Marvin is a great man and a great Aggie. I consider him to be a friend and wish I had more time to spend listening to him.

This guy is correct. I have a Calc. Prof who graduated that year and told us that the incident was why he wanted to teach at A&M and Make a difference in society.

Sid Theriot was the other guard in the Ag line with Tate. Both were similar sixe.

jeez, ! i hate it enough when people weigh in on history but dont know their facts, but really bad when they semi-slander someone! AD's dont shake grads hands- Presidents do. Miller refused to shake her hand because she sued Texas A&M. I didn't blame him.

They don't come much better than Marvin Tate. He will be sorely missed. Here.
