Yell Practice for the annual football game between Texas A&M University and the University of Texas will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thanksgiving night, November 22, at Kyle Field on the Texas A&M University campus. The entire football team will be in attendance and Head Football Coach Dennis Franchione, A&M President Ed Davis, and team captains will address the crowd. Additionally, Head Yell Leader Eric Reed will recite the traditional Last Corps Trip. Prior to Yell Practice, the Yell Leaders and the Aggie Band will lead a march throughout the campus, departing from the Corps Quad and ending at Kyle Field. Aggie fans are encouraged to follow the Yell Leaders and Band to Kyle Field.
Yell Practices at Texas A&M are normally held at midnight. However, there has never been a Midnight Yell Practice on-campus for the University of Texas game, as this Yell Practice was once held in conjunction with Aggie Bonfire. “The 8:00 start time maintains this tradition and it also allows the football team to attend,” said Reed, a senior Agricultural Business major from Helotes. “It is so important to Texas A&M and our football team for the 12th Man to pack Kyle Field for this Yell Practice. It has been a tough season so far for the team, but tough times bring out the best in Aggies. The players need to see that Aggies stand tall for them no matter what. This is the t.u. game, and as we saw last year, the records and rankings mean nothing. A win over t.u. means a successful season and a great future.”
The November 23 game at Kyle Field will be the official “Maroon Out” game. Texas A&M is 6-3 in Maroon Out games since this tradition began in 1998. The Aggies have been the underdog in each of these games. The victories have included wins in 1998 over #2 Nebraska, in 1999 against #5 Texas, in 2000 outscoring #8 Kansas State, in 2001 knocking off Notre Dame, in 2002 upsetting #1 Oklahoma, and in 2004 over Texas Tech. “There is something magic about Maroon Out. It brings out the best in the 12th Man,” said Reed. “If everyone shows their support at Yell Practice and then comes to the game in maroon, brings their 12th Man towels, and yells for the entire game, we will beat the hell outta t.u.”
"Some want to live within the sound of church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell."
