I recently got stuck in Charleston SC. I began looking for places to explore where I could get to in my semi. Found Patriot Point. I was really surprised with what was accessible there. Started with the ride to Ft Sumter, where the first shot of the civil war was fired. Then went and wandered the Yorktown. They allow you to explore almost the entire ship. I paid extra for the guided tour. I saw our tour guide and he noticed my Aggie hat and informed me he was an Aggie as well. Overall I spent 6 hours seeing everything I could. Was a fun experience. Anyone have other spots an exploring trucker should try next?

I just stayed at the Residence Inn Patriots Point in late July

I have been to Patriots Point probably six or seven times now. also go check out the submarine which is buried in the dirt near the soccer stadium along the same boulevard.

if you are heading north go see USS NORTH CAROLINA in Wilmington you can park in their large lot. In Charleston I also this last trip went to see the Revolutionary War Fort Moultrie on Sullivans Island.

super cool!! it was also used as US Army base during WWII
