Howdy. Looking to learn more about Ike. I admittedly haven't done any research on my own in terms of what books are available, and I'm sure there's tons of information about him, just wanted to see if any of y'all had read a biography about him that you enjoyed.

My goal for this year is to get into reading biographies. Friend told me that presidential biographies are a good starting point because there's lots of research opportunities on them. I just finished "41: A Portrait of my Father" about H.W. Bush and it was a average read. Started with him because of the A&M connection, and now looking for Eisenhower due to his Texas connection.

Thought this was a great book on Ike thru WW2

"Eisenhower in War and Peace" is a good read by Jean Edward Smith. I'll offer two caveats

You might be turned off by his conjecture about Eisenhower's potential WWII infidelity.
It portrays Ike as more progressive on race than other historians may agree with.
That said, JES writes very readable biographies and you'll likely zip right through it.

I was going to recommend Stephen Ambrose's biography of Eisenhower, but wasn't aware (until today) of the allegations of plagiarism and fabrication against Ambrose. Yikes.
