The inclusion of a dance leading to sex does not make it a love story as in the Australia episode of The Pacific. While there were no combat scenes, we do get to experience the waiting for news that the guys who stayed behind went through, and the anger when they find out who doesn't return.

I think it was about telling the rest of the story. The downed pilots the escaped through the Belgium/French underground. The pilots dealing with survivor guilt and still being alive when so many weren't and seemingly nothing but luck as the difference. The support crews and staff who stayed behind and could only wait and see who made it back. There are a lot more stories to tell than just the air combat.

It's pretty slow, and I'm finding it hard to care about the characters. Band of Brothers had a lot of characters, and sometimes it was tough remembering who was who, but at least they left you invested.

Bob and the pacific had main characters who fought and survived the war, or most of it.

Without reaching to far back into personal lives, these guys were mostly in for short time and most died. There simply isn't a lot of time to develop.

The "new guys". They mentioned at the party that they don't pay to much attention to the new guys because when they went down it was like they were never there. The same thing was mentioned in BoB. The green replacements irritated the sh8t out of the Toccoa men. They didn't want to know them or grow attached to them because statistically they were not going to survive very long....

The big difference in their experiences is that line companies in the 101st rarely lost 80 men in one day. That is just mind boggling.

I think Band of Brothers is also thought of with an unrealistic nostalgia because of what it was and when it was released. It was like nothing else we had ever seen. It told a story on screen at a level we had only ever been able to get from reading in the pages of a book. So I think comparing the memory of experiencing it to either the Pacific or Masters of the Air puts a lot of unrealistic expectations on the modern stories.

The final three episodes and especially the Why We Fight episode were billed as being slow as well. I also remember the replacements episode getting knocked as not flowing well.

While I know the outcome I'm pretty invested in what happens to Buck Cleven and Sgt. Quinn and how they tell their stories.

Germans learned very quickly that the B-17 had a design flaw with the gun placement. The designers left a head on run pretty open. That's why in around late 1943 the G model came out that had twin mounted guns in a chin turret.

Yes, I watched a video that discussed how the Germans learned to attack the front since that was the weak link, and they also were very good at attacking almost immediately after US fighter escorts turned back due to fuel issues

They would also attack the formation section by section. Focusing all fighters to one section before moving on to the next. Was extremely effective.

So in Thursday night's episode, the last bomber that was still flying starts maneuvering when the fighters are trying to take him out. True story? If so, what was was he trying to do? Get his side towards the fighters to bring more guns to bear as opposed to just the tail gunner shooting at the planes coming in from behind?

Good night. What an episode. I've done some deep dives into WWII over the last 3 years, but always skipped over the air corps. This series has re-directed my focus.

It really calls into question the value of daylight bombing and whether they should have done it at all or listened to the British and bombed at night.

German industry and transportation was merely harassed,not destroyed, at a terrible price.

Good video. I think another reason for selecting that tactic is they underestimated the American public's stomach for German style total war. As later pointed out by the Japanese fire bombings, they actually had a pretty strong stomach.

Interestingly, it was the British public and government with the weak stomachs as Bomber Harris and his folks were denied the promotions and decorations for their role in the war.

The much-ballyhooed Norden bombsight probably wasn't as accurate in field use as its designers had hoped.
