When I was a BQ in the mid 1970s, we played for every commissioning ceremony. After one, the commissioning officer, a three star, class of 1940, wanted to speak to the Band for a few minutes, as he had been a BQ.
We were in the north end of Jollie Rollie, and I was about 2/3 of the way up. Couldn't hear very well, don't recall what he said. Pre-Internet, didn't have a clue who he was.
Had I known he was a badass who'd crossed Europe in a tank as one of Patton's top commanders, I might have paid more attention.
