So my buddy's and I were talking about the part of the military yell where we say "A&M give us room" and we are at a loss for why we say give us room. Does anybody know the significance or the meaning of that phrase.

They ran through the lists of words that rhyme with BOOM and settled on room.

So there's no other reason for it besides rhyming?? hahaha wow my educated guess was that maybe it was saying make room at the top because that's where we are heading but rhyming is cool too.

Sorry to upset you Sally. The reference to "give us room" probably had more to do with the lack of dormitory space than trench warfare.

Why don't you explain the hullabaloo caneck caneck yell and how it mimicked WWI artillery

This.

Some of the current yells, and words to the war hymn, are over 100 years old.

Just give it time folks ...... You will soon enough realize what is happening to you ...... It may seem kinda corny to you but you are beginning to get the thing we call the "Spirit."

It grows on you and you begin to work it into your life ..... sorta is like a comfortable pair of shoes or an old best friend. Maybe it has some thing to do with tradition or some thing else ..... but it fits well with all Ags of all ages. We understand it, we like it, and that settles it !

I love the "Comanche ranchee"..outstanding. Would love to see that one make a comeback but its probably too non-PC to make it past the PC cowards...
BTW.. In 1913 there was no "trench warfare" since perhaps Petersburg. Doubtful that a yell at The Land Grant College was using a reference to 1865 warfare. I think it was just a saying much like we might hear " MAKE ROOM" or " COMING THRU" today..

This was the first thing I thought of when I saw OP's question

This highlights one of my pet peeves about how we sing the War Hymn:

It's chig-ga-roo-ga-REM,

NOT

chig-ga-roo-ga-RUM.

It's supposed to rhyme with Texas A&M. That's how they wrote it.
