How long do you want to ignore this user?
War History Online

They were flown in the movie Battle of Britain and were given to Connie Edwards of Big Spring, Texas in payment for his work as aerial coordinator of the film.

Video with more info

I believe this is part of the hoard (I won't call it a collection) mentioned in Stephen Coont's book Cannibal Queen.

These aircraft were Spanish-built, and used Rolls-Royce Merlins instead of German engines. Thus the chin inlet and slightly different lines.

If you're nosy like I am and wonder where they are, look up Lucian Wells Edwards Airport.

I am certain that the Cinco Ranch association Nazis would send me a letter if I bought one of those and parked it in my driveway.

I dated Connie's daughter (briefly) and Worked with a guy from Breckenridge who has flown some of Connie's planes as well as some of Howard Pardue's stuff. let's just say Connie is a character.

That Spit has some heritage will be great to see it flying again unfortunately we probably won't see it fly in Texas.

Bucketrunner,
So sorry for your loss! I had the pleasure of meeting Tex in December of ’08 when he flew his TBM to Fredericksburg for the Pearl Harbor Commemoration. If memory serves correctly, your daughter was there as well.

She was. They both loved going to that event. George H. W. Bush signed his plane door. He was supposed to fly with Tex, but his health prevented it. Tex loved his T-6 the best, and some of his friends take it up now and then. The Turkey is in one of the hangars, waiting for Trey.

A great Ag, G2Lasseter, got a box of things together for the little boy. Lots of AGGIE stuff! Trey loved it.

Bucketrunner, I have the privilege of knowing your daughter and grand kids through a mutual friend, the little short loud guy down the street from them. Haha

Y'all raised one tough woman who has taken this challenge head on and not let it define her or those kids lives. Y'all deserve a pat of the back.

And to whomever said Connie is a character, biggest understatement ever! Connie Edwards may truly be the most interesting man in the world...

We love that little short guy and his family a lot. Thank you for the compliments. We think she's pretty special.

Just got my March 2015 issue of Aviation History and they have a nice one page article on the sale (page 9) by Jon Guttmann. There are two nice color photos - one of the stored 109's and a photo from the Battle of Britain movie showing four of the planes in formation.
