Having prostate issue that stems from BPH. Have been on medication, but no help. Has anyone had the Holep or PAE procedures. Would love to know which is best for us old guys. Thanks

Asking the same questions. Interviewing different surgeons and radiologists.

what meds are you on? Ive been on Alfuzosin for a while and it stopped working the way it did when I first started. My Dr added TADALAFIL and it's helped tremendously!

I've been on meds for BPH for over 25 years. They are no longer effective. My urologist has prescribed the HoLEP procedure which he will perform. I have a group of golfers my age (I'm Class of '67) who have taken this on surgically. One has had the Prostrate Artery Embolization (PAE) surgery. He was very satisfied with the results He was suffering the symptoms (incontinence) of BPH for about 12 years. Another friend was having troubles with upper tract infections which was linked to his BPH. That was solved with Aquablation Therapy. He's also been pleased with the results.
I'm tired of taking a bunch of ineffective prescription meds. I will visit with a clinic in Houston that specializes in the PAE procedure before making a choice.

Please keep us posted on what you learn on pae. Im interested in it also. I have read a lot that HOLEP is the gold standard for BPH. My urologist recommends it. I have tried several medications, but a lot of the side effects are guiding my debate now between PAE and HOLEP.

I'm seeing a PAE specialist early next month. I want to learn if this is appropriate for my specific conditions. What draws me to this procedure is that it's done intravenously. My friend who had the surgery said recovery was very short; he could resume his usual activities within two weeks. No catheter.

Did PAE solve his issues? The only downside I see so far in my readings is you may have to have the procedure again after a few years. At it only last 5-7 years. Also my readings indicate a delayed reduction in the prostate size. Please let me know what you discover.

He was very satisfied with the procedure and the results. I think he said the results weren't immediate but improved gradually over a month or two. He had been having incontinence issues for about 12 years. That was three years ago. At 75 he was, and is, in good health otherwise. Plays and walks over 200 rounds of golf annually. He's the one that got me interested in the procedure. I'm seeing his surgeon in Houston.

About 20 years ago, I started to have trouble with micturation.

In an effort to improve my general immunity, I started taking Vitamin D daily after watching a seminar given by Dr. Michael Holick. Surprisingly, about two months after I started the issues I had been having disappeared.

My prostate is quite enlarged, but it doesn't seem to affect micturation any more. I can generally get started in well under a minute.

I have no idea if this is the norm. It might even be that Vitamin D has nothing to do with it.

Eric, that's interesting. Good for you. I've been taking vitamin supplements, especially D, for over forty years but that doesn't appear to be the cure for me. Otherwise I'm in very good health. I just don't like the inconveniences of this condition.
