Sorry but anyone complaining about abt aspect of it is soft. The prep, the fasting, and the procedure are all ridiculously easy.

****ton easier than the alternate.

Bottom line is that I now know multiple people who have had the exact same thing all at or near that mid-40's age. Seems to have really hit our generation for whatever reason, and now they've lowered the age for colonoscopy.

My daughter '24 mentioned this to me recently. Here was she said (google confirmed):

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is rising in people under 50 due to a combination of lifestyle, environmental, and potential genetic factors rather than a single cause. Key drivers include high-fat/low-fiber diets, obesity, sedentary behavior, and gut microbiome changes

My surgeon basically said, "I'm not saying it's fast food/processed food, but Im also not saying it is not a major contributor."

It is crazy because while I am carrying a bit of extra weight due to age, I have been a runner/biker for most of my life and only got a real "desk" job the last 5 years or so. Biked or walked in evenings and weekends til sidelined by pain. I was raised by frugal Silent Gen parents who cooked at home using whole ingredients all my life. We hardly eat takeout. I eat fast food less than monthly. 99% of my meals are home cooked. I dont drink soda or sweet tea. This still happened... It will be really interesting when they get a grasp of what really is causing this trend, if it is really something like seed oils, fried chicken, or sugar or who knows what.

Infusions DONE...two week break then chemo-radiation starts. CT scan 2 weeks ago showed no metastatic activity thus far. Another CT in 2 weeks.

Be thankful the age of first was reduced to 45. Another 5 years of those growing uninhibited increases risk. I was "lucky"' to have diverticulitis and needed a scope at 43, and they found a handful polyps, all single digit mm. The more the grow the higher the risk of issues, so thank god that happened or else I'd have gone 7 more years (before the 45 age recommendation occurred)

I have Lynch Syndrome, so I'm supposed to yearly for the colonoscopy and every other year for the EGD. My grandfather was one of 9 children in his family, 7 died of colon cancer. My dad's first cancer was renal cell, then died of bladder cancer. Many cases of breast cancer in the family. I have lost several cousins to colon cancer. Several more to other cancer types.

I am the only one out of 4 in the extended family to live more than 18 months after being diagnosed with bladder cancer. It's been almost 9 years, it is very possible that kidney stones saved me, it caused symptoms that led to an early diagnosis.

Even with all of that, I absolutely dread the colonoscopy. However, last year's doctor was an absolutely beautiful woman.

Just got off the phone getting all my final instructions for my procedure next Monday morning.

What product is recommended as far as something to grease the ole skids?

Just had my 3 year colonoscopy (UC in remission since 2007 knock on wood) and it went smoothly. I even am allowed clear whey protein beverages (does contain milk) by the doctor. That helps offset the hunger and gives me my protein (150-170g-normally go for 200 but that'll do on a prep day). Everything looked great. I do think lifestyle plays a major factor in having a healthy colon. But genetics and other factors can contribute, obviously.

My advice as I have had a few of these, is schedule it early so you don't have to wait for your first meal in over 24 hours....ya, you'll have to get up earlier to do the 2nd round of prep but it's worth it to get back to being able to eat real food....

I did Plenvu and it basically tastes like super salty gatorade. It costs a little more than the over the counter stuff, but you don't have to take as much of it. Worked fine for me. No complaints here.

That's not even the worst part.....it was not eating for about 30 hours. My stomach was SO LOUD!

I assume you mean the bowel prep. Don't you have one prescribed to you by the doctor? Mine was SUPREP. Delicious. Like the best Old Fashion you've ever had! Ok, ngl, tastes not so great but to me its bearable.

The tablets are awesome because you just have to drink water with them. At times it was even hard to finish the whole chugger of water.

Hence the protein beverages. Again, the "clear" ones. They are really a bit opaque. Isopure makes a good one. Just avoid the red, purple obviously. Green is fine iirc. But, since my doc knows I train and don't want to lose too much muscle, she allows the drinks. Get your doctor to approve it first.

I was trying to avoid the word lube because its weird, but I am trying to make sure things are greased up down at the tail end.

Drink some clear chicken broth on fasting day. The grease will lube the pipes. Almost did it a little too well for me

Vaseline is all you need if you're concerned. Also get some wipes to use, rather than toilet paper.

Sticking to a liquid diet the day of your prep makes everything easier. Those last few trips to the toilet should be essentially be clear fluid.

Ah! Yes, A&D and any diaper rash ointment is fine. Or as was stated, petroleum jelly too. I'd start using early and often.

I forgot to ask about this: I have mine on Monday. I know I'm not supposed to eat a day before, other than liquids...but my procedure is at 8:30a monday. If I'm up early on sunday, can I eat breakfast, assuming its more than 24 hours before the procedure?

Mine was at 11 the next day and they said only clear food the day before. Jello and broth - go for it.

It is typically the whole day, not just 24 hours. I would say the last thing you want is to do all the prep, then you still have lingering breakfast **** in your ass and they have to cancel it.

well, that sucks. gonna be a terrible workout on sunday, but oh well.

They want you clear, so it's probably not a good idea. I mean, when does the "clock" start? What if you have a meal at midnight the night before the prep day? It's likely not going to matter, depending on what it is of course. Avoid anything with seeds, fruit in general, etc. But I probably ate a large protein meal the night before, like always. 50 g casein protein. Heck, I loaded up pretty good Wednesday. Had an extra meal even. Upped my carbs. Had a lot more then 200g protein that day too. But only had the clear protein beverages and a little honey and maple syrup on Thursday. Then Friday loaded up on calories. I still had a pretty low energy training session Saturday. It just takes a lot out of you. So go easy the day after and play it by ear. Deload if you need to. It actually wasn't until yesterday that I finally had my normal head of steam while training where I felt strong and full of energy. I did deload session up to that point and just tested the waters each day until I felt ready.

My last one was the first time I had schedule for a time other than first thing in the morning. My doctor's instructions have three columns for three different timeframes of the procedure - when/what you can eat, when to take the preps, etc. This one was around noon, I think.. It actually allowed me to have breakfast the day before. I choose to have a light breakfast of some eggs and a biscuit ( we were travelling that day.) I also found that the timing for the preps lined up better for a better nights sleep on the midday procedure. Your mileage may vary. But I will probably go for the midday time from now on.

Hello. Anybody have recommendations on a doctor to get a colonoscopy in the Katy/Houston area? It'll be my first time, so don't have one yet. Thanks.

I saw Katherine Nguyen at Digestive & Liver Specialists at Hermann Memorial City.

It's worth missing a work out to get the prep right. A liquid diet all day will make the experience of the prep much easier and ensure you have a clean shiny colon for the procedure. We went to Katz's and got 2 bowls of chicken broth. I diluted that and sipped it throughout the day whenever I got hungry.
