How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have these floaters in my eyes that cloud my vision depending on how I move my eyes. It's most annoying when I drive in the daylight.

I am used to them but it's still annoying. Anyone ever had them and, had any success, getting rid of them? Laser surgery is an option but my eye doctor is not a fan of that. The success rate is low, according to her.

Thanks.

I have two in the same eye. Looks like tiny pieces of fuzz in my vision. I can really notice them If I am looking at really bright backgrounds. Got used to them though, did not know there was a surgery to eradicate them. Had them for 7 years, doc said they are normal.

Ive had them for as long as I can remember. Never figured there was a way to get rid of them. Don't really think about them now.

All the ophthalmologists I know have always said that they only do surgeries for these if they are really, really, bad.

I got a few that I seemed to notice all at once like 4-5 years ago. Just woke up one day with them very noticeable. They really freaked me out for those first few months. I went to an ophthalmologist every 3 months for like 9 months. I think subconsciously I was just panicking about my vision maybe going to crap. Fast forward to now, knock on wood, and I don't think about them too often. I did start buying prescription sun glasses though, very distracting in bright environments and when driving. The sunglasses really help.

The ophthalmologists are very against doing anything. Had 1 tell me there is a surgery, but he wouldn't touch me with a 10 ft pole regarding that procedure. It's for people whose vision is almost completely blurry, severely blocked in their center of vision, and ideally the patient is much older. They can dilate your eye, shine a light, and look with a magnifying glass to see them.

Again, good news is you get used to them, and I don't get bothered much by them when looking at my computer screen. I am also something of a cinephile (screening room and all), and because of how dark TVs and projectors are lit, I never see them.

When I told my gf, she got mad at me because she had several and had literally never noticed them before. I do think people that have bad vision notice them easier.

Great responses. Thank you. They are aggravating. Most of the time, I just look past them and don't think about them being there. Every once in while, I catch them moving across my vision and then I fixate on them. lol.

I wear sunglasses, too, when I drive. It does help. If I turn my head a certain way just slightly, I can see clearly. But that goes away as soon as I move my eyes.

There is a surgery for this. I went to the Retina Center in Bryan. My vision has improved greatly with the surgery.

How bad were your floaters?

The floaters were really bad in the left eye and minimal in the right. I only had the left eye done for now. It has made the floaters in tge right eye way more noticeable. It was my choice to wait on the right.

Were the ones in your left eye presenting as dark or clear?

Neither. I had several large ones that I seemed like a blob that made it hard to see. I know that's not a good description.

Your brain filters most of them out. I see them if I really try to focus on them by staring at a uniform light colored background but day to day I never notice them as most are virtually transparent and only distort the incoming light a bit. Pretty much once you stop moving they stop moving, and at least in my case they virtually disappear as my brain filters them out. Pretty cool, really.

I had an enormous floater in my left eye for months. I finally went to see Dr Kool at the Retina Center; he said it could be removed, but I would likely need cataract surgery within 6 months of the removal.

Well it ended up that the cataract developed very fast, and within 2 months I was seeing far worse with the cataract than I did with the floater. Fast forward to another surgery to have the cataract removed. So be wary what you ask for!

I did get the fancy lens in my left eye for astigmatism so I no longer would need glasses after the cataract. Also got a close-up reader lens for my right eye. It is great to be 99% out of glasses, but I did buy a pair to wear at night when I drive as that seems to be my only vision difficulty at this point.
