Easing into rucking (read: power walking ~3miles+ in the mornings to add resistance). I cannot run due to lingering foot issues and want to walk.

What kind of pack would you recommend? Looking to keep it under $100 where possible. Read about GoRuck ($$$$$), ALICE, FILBE, MOLLE, etc. Would be starting with 20-30lbs and easing up to 50lbs over time. Will see where I go from there.

Weighted Vests | Titan Fitness

This works just fine and you can gradually go up on weight with out too much added expense.

I prefer the Rogue plate carrier because I feel I can breath a lot better with it.

I have both and both work fine. I just prefer the Rogue one.

I was also going to recommend a vest

Condor Sentry plate carrier plus Yes4All contoured plates. Great setup and should be around $100.

Thanks all, was hoping for a pack to help engage and build my core up vs a centered weighted vest

I'm still waiting for a female, who is a mom, to tell me she likes to ruck so I can call her a mother rucker.

Although I'm 100% sure this is funnier in my head than it would be in real life.

Edit: I have a 40 lb vest. That is way too heavy to start out (for me). Twenty pounds is good, but what bugs me is the heat.

Well, buy a back pack then and put something heavy in it.

I have the vest I mentioned above and a ruck backpack. I really don't feel major core engagement with the backpack vs the vest but I also keep it under 40#. Maybe if I got really heavy with the backpack there would be more core work but I doubt I ever go that heavy.

For me throwing on 30-40# in the bag or the vest makes for a an enjoyable walk or hike with some added challenge. Heavier than that and it's just uncomfortable and I won't likely do it.

40 or 50 lbs with a pack under $100 means you'll have all that weight on your shoulders. This is going to suck.

Source: I don't regularly do ruck workouts, but I have carried out plenty of deer, elk, and pronghorn in backpacks, oftentimes upwards of 70lbs.

No need to be obtuse, I asked for a pack recommendation that can comfortably shoulder 50lbs and was looking for some insight

Not being obtuse. Don't over complicate stuff. You don't need a special back pack if all you are wanting is a backpack and weights. One of my best friends hunts all over the world he gets ready for the hikes by filling his backpack that he will use with the approximate weight of what he'll be carrying and then he walks and walks. You don't need a special "workout" backpack.

I bought this one. The weights are removable.

I use my hunting pack and stuff it full of weights when rucking and training for elk hunts. I'll throw 75lbs in there and walk a couple of miles. A good hiking pack will have support in the needed areas and will haul a bunch of weight.

This.

I want a weighted vest, but I get sticker shock when I look at them.

I've taken a backpack that I have, just a normal everyday backpack, and have added bags of sand -> I've taken some of the plastic Amazon shipping bags that have the bubble wrap integrated and just filled them with dirt from the flower bed to 10lbs and then duct taped them up really well.

Have 20lbs in my pack now and will be adding another 10lb this spring.

You called it "genuinely impressive" in the Weightlifting thread.
