Who is in on the 20th? I will be running the half again. Leave the next day for Steamboat Springs, taking the kids snowboarding, so this is an "easy" pace for me...or that is at least what I say now!

If you wait till the 20th you will miss it!

I'm in. It's either my 12th or 13th Houston. Registered for the full. Haven't trained, lol. Longest run since, well last January, was a 10 miler last week. Should be interesting.

Running the half with my son (he turns 12 a few weeks after), for the second year in a row. My 8th or 9th, his second. He had a blast last year, and soaked up the encouragement and comments from other runners. He was already asking to sign up for this year's before we made it back to the car. We moved up from corral E to D this year.

Not sure about pace, but last year he set the pace and walk breaks and we finished in 2:50.

That's awesome! I'm hoping to get my 9 year old soccer playing daughter to start doing 5ks with me (hate paying for those though) and eventually would love to run one with her. What a memory!

Well, my typical pattern continues, like clockwork, the years I'm not running have glorious weather.

I signed up for the full this year, but can't run due to back surgery in December (unrelated to running), so of course the weather will be absolutely perfect (my opinion). In the 6 previous times I've run it, I've had exactly 1 perfect weather day. In the 7 years I either ran the half or sat out completely due to vacation, like 5 or 6 of those years have been perfect marathon days.

Anybody interested in exchanging a male bib (half or full) for a case of beer and/or finisher prizes (mug, medal, etc)? I hadn't planned on running but am considering it with the conditions are looking good.

That better be the best case of beer in exchange for a $140 half-marathon bib.

Valuing a race entry is kind of tricky. The vast majority of people who register and don't run are out the whole amount. A case of beer + the finisher items is > $0 and this is about what it is worth to me as a training run. It is not like Houston is a bucket list race like NY or Boston.

But you can also get banned from running again if caught (regardless of how unlikely this is)….
wessimo

Yeah, as a seller you have to be careful who ends up with your bib because they could do something stupid and get you banned in the future.

As a buyer, best practice is to remove or disable the tracking device on the bib.

Regarding the ethics of this, I have a lot of opinions but am not going to derail this thread.

Good luck to all the runners that weekend, hope you exceed your goals!

Will they let B Corral person go into C since it's the later timed group or is that a big no no.

Yes. You can go backwards, but not forwards.

What are y'all wearing for the weather? I usually just go in shorts and a short-sleeve shirt, which is what my son and I wore last year (with gloves and ear warmers). The weather looks about the same as last year, maybe a little chillier. Wondering if we need leggings or something this time. I know they say to run in what you're used to, but the temps have me a little concerned.

Everyone is different, but I won't be in leggings. Shorts, quarter zip pullover, beanie or ear coverings, and gloves.

Now if we're talking mid 20's I may consider leggings....

I'll check the weather again Saturday but for now it doesn't look cold enough for tights (leggings).
I'll wear dry-fit throw away layers: Short sleeve, then long sleeve, then light wind breaker. Maybe a throw away hoodie or blanket to wear in the corral. My hands get cold easily so I'll keep my gloves. Probably a throw away beanie.

If it's windy, I am in leggings, but I am a female; big wuss when it comes to wind.

Thanks. Sounds like I'm on the right track then, or at least, not an anomaly. I'm not planning on leggings. Probably go with a short sleeve shirt, add a throwaway long sleeve dry-fit, and definitely gloves and a beanie or ear warmers. Last year, my son and I wrapped up in space blankets in the corral, which was fine and helped with the wind.

Last year I wore shorts, long sleeve shirt with a compression short sleeve underneath, and gloves (which I took off and stuffed into pockets at some point). Garmin says we started at 39 F with North wind, but I don't recall the wind being a big factor). Looks to be more wind this year.

I'm not running this one. Good luck everyone!

A black 55 gallon trash bag worn as a poncho will keep you warm and allow you to skip the long port a potty lines (finish off your water bottle first).

The urinal portapotties just before you get to the start line for the win.

I go even if I don't think I need to.

Pacing a good buddy of mine who is around a minute and a half slower than me. I plan on tights, long shirt, gloves, and a beanie. 40 degrees with 30 mph winds is 28 degrees.
Jackal99

Yeah… I don't have tights, but I do have compression sleeves so I'm going to wear those. Then shorts, a dry-fit shirt, dry-fit long sleeve, and gloves and ear warmers. My son has tights, so he'll use those, a compression top and long sleeve shirt, and gloves and ear warmers. Got a few space blankets for the corral.

And then dress for 20 degrees warmer, so dress for 48. Obviously wind impact that a bit, as it hits a little different. If I were running I'd probably wear shorts, light gloves, and a long sleeve shirt. Probably have a buff since those are versatile.

Spot on. Usually I just need my core and head covered in the cold. When I ran the Atlanta half marathon I wore leggings because the temps were below freezing for the entire race!

Good luck to all the runners today!

And if you have people supporting you from the sidelines today, make sure you repay them somehow snd thank them. They aren't running but standing for hours in these conditions suck! I've been on both sides of the coin.

Finish strong!

Best of luck. The old Houston-Tenneco was one of my favorites. Haven't run it in a long time cause it's too close to The Cowtown.

BTW - a coworker of mine is trying to qualify for the US Olympic Trials again. The qual time for 2028 is 2:26:50 and she is trying to get in the low 2:30's in this race. She's number 318 so yell GO CAITLIN if you see her.

She's 5'-2', so just look for the shortest woman close to the lead pack.

I thought the last second move to the left to block out/bump the American was bush league. Called it out watching it live and watching the replay annoys me even further.

Yeah. **** move.

That guy won't lose sleep over it though unfortunately.

I wonder if this gets reviewed or how that works. Some type of penalty for unsportsmanlike behavior.

This is why I prefer trail racing and ultras. Night and day difference in sportsmanship. In my opinion that is.

Two totally different races I know.

Ran 1:56:23. Was pretty frozen until mile 4. Didn't really enjoy today to be honest but it's over!
