50 year old here and I'm wondering what the best multivitamin is on the market?

You'll get a lot of opinions. You can pay a bunch of money for things like AG1 or multivitamins with the methylated versions of the primary vitamins. From what I've read, some people see a benefit from them but it's money down the drain for the vast majority of people. My PCP ran a few tests(homocysteine and a few others) and concluded that I'd be fine saving the cash.

This is the one I've used for the last 3-4 years and my bloodwork always comes back in the recommended ranges.

if you are just looking for a general MV,
then any MV will work

like the one linked above, they all have lower (supplemental) doses of multiple supplements combined into one convenient pill

if you are looking for something specific (like super greens, beet, etc), then that would alter the approach

I've never been a doc to endorse any vitamins but I started this one years ago and let it run out for a while and I could really tell a big difference in my post clinic energy levels so I'm sticking with it.

Most vitamins are synthetically made and aren't very bioavailable for your body to absorb. I would focus on a healthy diet.

Sex, red meat, and exercise. Not necessarily in that order…

My PCP tells me multivitamins are a waste. Too dense for body to absorb and just leads to more expensive pee

Who knows…

Any thoughts on methylated vitamins? I have heard Gary Brecka and others recommending them.

Here's what CoPilot tells me:

Quote:

Methylated multivitamins offer several advantages, especially for individuals who have difficulties with nutrient absorption or specific genetic mutations. Here are some key benefits:
[ol]
  • Enhanced Bioavailability: Methylated vitamins are in a form that the body can use immediately, making them more easily absorbed and utilized.
  • Energy Support: Methylated B12 (methylcobalamin) is particularly beneficial for combating fatigue and supporting energy levels.
  • Mood and Clarity: Ingredients like methylated B6 (P-5-P) and methylated folate (methylfolate) can help maintain mental clarity and emotional balance.
  • Support for Genetic Mutations: Individuals with MTHFR gene mutations may have trouble converting standard vitamins into their active forms, making methylated vitamins a better option.
  • Aging Support: As natural absorption decreases with age, methylated vitamins can help ensure older adults get the nutrients they need.
  • Chronic Illness Management: Those with long-term health issues may experience better nutrient absorption with methylated vitamins.
