I'm getting a vasectomy next Friday. I'm 42 and have two kids...I'm done. The doctor asked me over and over again if I'm sure I don't want anymore. Any tips for dealing with the pain/swelling after? When they went over all the possible things that could happen (but very rare) it did make me a little hesitant.

Was a really easy procedure for me. Just took it easy for a couple of days on the couch.
It wasn't bad at all for me. Sit on the couch for a few days, ice, watch sports/movies. That's pretty much all there is to it.
Really a piece of cake procedure. My anxiety was through the roof when I checked in and when the doctor slapped my leg and told me I was all done, I was baffled at how easy it was.
The cardinal sin most guys make is not truly relaxing without doing any sort of manualish labor for the first seven or so days afterwards. You're probably going to feel a lot better than you expect and you'll want to get some chores done during your down time. Don't do it.

A six pack of beer placed on groin worked just fine for me. Repeat as needed!

Echo the frozen peas. Find a TV show you've wanted to watch that has a lot of episodes on demand and binge watch it. That weekend is what got me hooked on 24. I binge watched the first two seasons over the four day weekend. Great time passer.

Maybe it's just me, but a bag of frozen vegetables has never worked for me. Typically is cold for a few minutes then its just a bag of thawing, wet vegetables. Treat yourself and splurge - just use a bag of ice.
Hope your doc is does the no-scalpel no needle method. They don't recommend, but I drove myself home after the procedure. Had a Little swelling that evening, and just slight bruising. Was able to work from the house the next day no problem. Tight fitting jock, or a size down briefs are your friend for a bit though.

I'll echo this. Also I didn't realize what supplies I'd need until after the surgery so I walked around Walmart like a penguin post-op.

Thank for the tips! I got a jock strap ordered and some clippers and an ice bag. Eeesh.

Came to post exactly this. Jock strap was extremely helpful.
How long did you need to wear it?
I wore mine for about 4 days. Wore it after when exercising (pickleball and running about 7-10 days out)

Just be sure to do your follow-up visit after cleaning out the pipes to ensure no more swimmers. My wife wouldn't let me touch her without verifying. Good thing as I recanalized - meaning somehow my body healed itself. Broke my doc's 16 year successful streak. Had to have a second procedure, but this time knocked out in a surgery center so he could see what was going on. Larger incision, cauterize in addition to clamps, etc. Healing was a bit slower but still manageable as long as you didn't do anything stupid. But good news is no surprise baby!!
About to go back now, gents! See everyone on the other side!!
