Howdy.

I fractured my right ankle 11/3/2024. It was the outer bone part. I had gone to the orthopedic and was scheduled to move to a brace this coming tuesday. I was doing so well.

Then yesterday happened. I stepped wrong, rolled my LEFT ankle, heard a pop, then went to the ortho today (they got me in same day), and lo and behold, a left ankle fracture on the outside part.

Anyone got any motivational speeches or recommendations to help this sucker heal faster? I'm so discouraged, and think maybe I need to buy a lotto ticket or something because what are the damn chances?

Look on the bright you side you dont have three ankles. Or maybe you do with your most recent fracture.

Do you mind sharing your age? Are you menopausal? Perhaps you need to ask your PCP for a Dexa scan; you need more information on the state of all your bones.

I am taking meds that can cause bone loss, so I get a Dexa scan every year.

I'm about to be 34, but I Think you may be on to something. Maybe figure out if I have bone loss.

You want to get on top of this because you don't want your spine or hips doing the same bad juju as your ankles. Please update us on what you learn.

I'm just here for the support and to say you can do this and don't let it get to you. I had 3 foot breaks in 3 years between the age of 33-35/36. The most major was snapping my heel bone in half, rolling my ankle during a workout. The other two were also rolling ankles. It sucked because it was when I was working out feeling good and it just took all the wind out of my sails for that. I'm 44 now and am starting to feel a stress fracture that could happen any minute and it's worse when I wear bad shoes. My biggest piece of advice is supportive shoes. All the time. If I wear flip flops or crocs or just cute shoes for any amount of time I can feel the stress on my feet. Uneven wear on your shoes can cause the rolling of your ankle if they get caught on something. A few months back I had on these ridiculously ugly but supportive reebok shoes and stepped on a rock walking in the dark and rolled my ankle. Luckily the shoes spared my feet but I wiped out my knees landing on the asphalt. If you high arches your going to be more prone to the ankle rolling according to my ortho.

Aging along with childbirth does a heck of a job on women.

But you are still young and God made us pretty dang good.

Prayers for a speedy recovery.

94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

Motivation - life sucks. Just turn into the wind, grit your teeth and get through it.

Recommendation for healing - make sure your nutrition isn't lacking. Work out by figuring out what you can do. A lot of upper body stuff, obviously. The training will stimulate and increased production of human growth hormone which should, in theory, stimulate healing.

A surefire way to make sure your nutrition isn't lacking is a high protein intake. give yourself building blocks to heal.

Little update: got some protein shakes today at the grocery store (assisted by my lovely dad as I rode the old person scooter cart around, pointing to stuff). Also picked up some extra calcium with vitamin D supplements.

Still a bit discouraged and hard to get in to the Christmas spirit, but I'll be hoping for some good news on 1/2 in regards to my left ankle.
