Having cataract surgery coming up and the doctor went over lens choices. The multifocal option provides best option for eliminating the need for my glasses (which are progressives). He was clear to say that there is a chance for glare and a halo effect at night with the multifocal lens. He said some patients report it and others are fine and with minimal if any halo effect.

Wondering if there are any here with experience with multifocal lenses. Would love to eliminate glasses and the benefit of not needing reading glasses.

Thanks and GigEm !

I had cataract surgery maybe three yeas ago and went ahead and sprung for the PanOptix trifocal lenses. It was an extra $7000 and took a great leap of faith to do it.

I have not regretted it yet. I had worn glasses ever since 3rd grade. I now could do all the wild outdoor stuff I'd always enjoyed without glasses.

Yes, I experienced glare and halos for the better part of a year. They eventually went away (or maybe my eyes just got used to them - same thing, really). I did experience flashes when there was a light off to the side that was distracting as well. That too has gone away.

You also have to get used to looking at things in order to focus up close. Your eyes get lazy using trifocals and the focusing with your eye muscles takes time to get used to.

Three years in - the up close vision has probably fallen off just a tad. I use reading glasses when reading a book in low light. I have to use the flashlight on my phone in dark restaurants with small print menus. But otherwise, I do not regret it.

Don't have them but wish i had done it. Sitting in front of 6 screens fixed focus and glasses don't cut it.
