I have a slap tear in my left shoulder. I'm scheduled to have a injection in it, but from what I have read that never truly fixes the issue, its just a temporary fix. It happened on Sept 19th and just curious if anyone has been through this and what to expect/advice. I have good range of motion but hardly any strength and it hurts daily.

Thanks

Search for shoulder injury threads. There are a couple.

Basic conclusion - PT, then PT and Shot for as long as they help control it. Then surgery once they don't. I went 20 plus years on steps one and two. Step three is rough and hurts, but was worth it in the end.

I had the same thing back in 2019. Got 4 injections over a year or so. Strengthened it with PT and specific exercises in the gym. Good now except occasionally I feel it when lifting heavy upper body.

I have it, tried to rehab it and 5 different rounds of steroid shots, several rounds of PT, and I am giving up on that and getting it fixed the first part of 2025. Doctor said we could try PRP type of shots but with the condition mine is in that there would only be a 30% chance that would last more than a few years. I am only 40 and don't want to live the rest of my life not being able to do all the activities I want for the rest of my life.

Yeah we're in similar boats, i'm 41 and dont want to live with this the rest of my life. I was very active prior this, but haven't been able to much since. Luckily its in my none throwing shoulder for kids sake but still. Sounds like i'm early into my journey compared to y'all so i'll check back in later.

Had left shoulder slap tear shoulder surgery at 24. It's very strong now and still holding up at 43. But it's a tough surgery recovery. 6-8 months of misery. Another 1-2 years to regain full strength but was playing golf 9 months after.

I've had a right shoulder slap tear for 5 years. I deal with it by stretching and active release therapy with my trainer. I can still play golf and lift medium heavy weights but stay away from certain things. Until it gets as bad as my left one was im avoiding surgery. I couldn't put a jacket on for court when I had my left one done at 24.

I had a SLAP tear in right shoulder. Had the surgery but it was two months after the tear and they discovered it was either only partially torn or had begun to reattach ( I dont remember) so they trimmed it up, The Houston Texans doc was my surgeon so it wasn't some Podunk deal. It took a good year if not longer before it was 100% again though. Overhead lifting is a no go still 20 years later. Lots of rubber bands and other lifting though. Getting the bolt surgery would be tough, as others have said. Even without the healing process took so much longer than I ever imagined.

Have the same thing. PT helped the first time. Got a shot and it did nothing. Went back in for one more shot a month later and it hit the spot and gave me great relief. I'm sure it will flair up again at some point. Hoping to avoid the surgery route.
