Cholesterol and LDL levels

I would say I do about 70/30 carnivore diet. A lot of red meat, a lot of protein, a lot of fruit, low carb. I feel great and have a healthy weight and decent muscle mass. I exercise four to five times a week.

I went to the doctor for bloodwork recently and he wants me to get my cholesterol and LDL numbers down. My cholesterol is at 221 and my LDL is at 150. I'm not an expert on this stuff by any means but I know a lot of carnivores would say these numbers are fine, while most people would say that high cholesterol and high LDL levels are associated with heart disease.

Are these numbers high? Should I cut back on red meat?

There's been a few threads on here that have been deep dives into cholesterol. LDL particles are necessary but not causative of heart disease. You can lower your risk if you lower your LDL but a high LDL doesn't guarantee you'll have atherosclerosis.

If you reduce your saturated fat, your LDL-C Will almost be guaranteed to improve (which in your case means cutting red meat). BUT If you are metabolically healthy and the other 30% of your diet is whole fruits and vegetables and not processed garbage and carbs , then I'm willing to bet your inflammation levels are in check and your metabolic markers are as well. It matters much less what your ldl-c # is.

If you really want a deep dive I'd get an advanced lipid panel done and find your ldl particle counts, apoB, lp(a). then also insulin , Crp, homocysteine , lp pla2.
